It was one of the most popular multiplayer franchises on the PS2 and it's now primed and ready to enter the new generation. We've been hearing some good things about Sony's SOCOM: Confrontation, and while we have plenty of details, we never had a release date. Well, that date has arrived.
According to 1Up, Sony has revealed that Confrontation's release date is September 16. In celebration of this good news, the game's official website - SOCOM.com - goes live at some point today, and it's "an online community devoted to SOCOM." As expected, the site will boast news updates and continually added media as we march towards the release in September. The real fireworks will start after the game hits store shelves, though, as "gamers will discover full integration with the website, including near real-time stat tracking, clan management tools, and more." The PlayStation Network is just pining for a game like this, and so are fans of the series.
As soon as we hear more about SOCOM: Confrontation, we'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, this confirmation means we have yet another potentially great title for 2008, and that's a definite bonus.
