SCEE Confirms Store Overhaul For April

Update: We have just received word from SCEA that this Store update will hit the US as well. The time frame is the same, as is the restriction that no more updates will arrive until the overhaul is complete. Again, you can still access the Store over the next couple of weeks during the process, and browse and download as you normally would.

Original Story:

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has officially announced the PlayStation Store overhaul via press release today, as we can expect to see the new-look Store go into effect in "mid-April."

First and foremost, customer feedback - that's you, fellow gamer - has been the inspiration behind this new design, interface and navigation style. Thanks to results from "millions of PSN registrants in the PAL region," Sony plans to implement this cosmetic face-lift within the next couple of weeks. The release goes on to say- "The new design will deliver a hugely improved navigation system, much greater scope for categorisation and a dynamic new user interface." Sounds good to us, but there is a catch- there will be no more updates until these improvements have been made. However, users can still download any and all current content until the re-launch, and that includes the recently released Gran Turismo 5: Prologue in Europe. Sony also wanted to make it clear that this revamping process will not affect PlayStation Network accounts or the virtual wallet system.

The only question we have involves the US launch of Prologue: it's slated for April 15, which just so happens to be smack dab in the midst of the month. That's right about the time this Store update should be complete in Europe; are we getting the same upgrade treatment soon? And if so, does that means Prologue could be delayed during the overhaul? We hope it doesn't turn out this way, but we'll keep you updated.
