UPDATED: Metal Gear Online Beta Set For April 25

Even though Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is one of the biggest releases of 2008, one mustn't forget the game that comes along with it: Metal Gear Online, specifically designed for multiplayer stealth/action fun on the Internet, which is something hardcore fans of the franchise should adore.

If you pre-order MGS4 early enough, you can secure your spot in the upcoming MGO beta, which is coming up fast. At the time of the MGS4 date announcement (June 12), we heard about this deal, but Konami didn't provide an exact date for the MGO beta. Well, according to translated information from the MGO teaser site, the beta will kick off on April 14! Now, this means you have less than two weeks to nail down a spot as a beta tester, so we strongly suggest you take full advantage of the opportunity when it becomes available. We say two weeks because, according to the official MGS4 release date information, the pre-order program with the MGO beta code won't start until April 1. Trying to get in now won't do you any good, so have patience.

If the beta starts on April 14, this gives them just under two months to test things out before MGS4 drops in mid-June. This seems like plenty of time, so we'd like to assume that April 14 is the actual date. Keep an eye out for more details, though; we know we will.

I think they won't start giving out beta codes until 4/14, let me give my GS buddy a call.

After a lengthy discussion about Java Chips, he finally told me that they should be able to give them out a few day before the 14th, but it just depended on when they got them in. He said that he'd call me and let me know when the DVDs/Tokens arrived.

You get a fancy receipt.

I'm not sure if you can get it now, and then take the receipt back to GS on the 14th and get the token. I imagine you should be able to.

Just FYI, I preordered MGS4 a couple days ago and I got a call last night saying that a disc for the MGS Online was in and I can pick it up any time I wanted.

So to answer your question, Brew, I think you can still preorder and get into the beta.

Yes. I stopped in today to see if they had the DS3 (which they do), and they mentioned that they had the Beta disks in.
