So, Ii’ve finally got around to getting the blog sorted and its still under construction.
I’d like to begin with my favorite game for the PS3 to date ‘Heavenly Sword’ from Ninja Theory.
The game begins with a massive open war area between your clan and the evil king Bohan’s army. You begin actively fighting against ALOT of Bohan’s soldiers. At first I thought to myself.. “Shit” ha-ha but the enemies don’t seem as tough as normal, due to it being a a tutorial on how to play. You are introduced to the main character 'Narkio.' Nariko dies at the end of the tutorial battle when her life-force is fully drained and she is killed by the Heavenly Sword. With Nariko narrating over what’s happening she says “There were times I would welcome death” continuing on to say “But now I would walk through hell for a chance to change things” and you then begin in the game’s chapter select screen which is the main menu. (That's how I see it.)
The game has insane graphics and amazing motion capturing, for example when the blades come out of the ground in the chapter selection area and Nariko turns around and faces it, these are the little touches like that is what makes a game special in my opinion. First play through I couldn’t even concentrate because I was stunned by the graphics. The motion rendering in the faces of the characters was incredible.
The combat system is very unique to what I’ve experienced in my years of playing games since being a little kid. There is a POWER and SPEED stance whilst you use the Heavenly Sword. To block speed attacks you must use SPEED stance and same for power attacks with POWER stance. When a enemy manages to catch you off guard and hits you up in the air, you can quickly shake the SIX-AXIS controller to recover yourself from losing your combo points on the bottom of the screen by pulling yourself to the enemy with your sword. There’s many different combat techniques, such as the Aftertouch effect.. banging a shield off multiple soldiers heads is always a laugh!
There is another playable character within the game. ‘Kai’ is Nariko’s adopted sister and is my favorite character in the game and is very fun to play as. She is involved in a very enigmatic part of the plot which I don't want to go into much detail with, mainly because I don't want to spoil anything! Needless to say, she's an interesting character.
I could probably type all day bout how much I like Heavenly Sword and how much of a amazing game it is but I wouldn’t want to spoil the plot by continuing on. The ending is simply fantastic, well worth the gameplay. Alot of games nowadays are more concentrated on how the game looks, rather than how the game plays out.
