"Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Features Announced"

Not a bad amount of content for a "demo" that lovekeiiy will not be buying

Quote:
More than 60 vehicles, six tracks and extra features confirmed.

will be released on April 17th for $39.99 (FYI, Costco has it for $34.99) from the PlayStation Store and on Blu-ray. The Blu-ray version will include a behind the scenes video called "Beyond the Apex." More than sixty vehicles and 14 tuned cars will be included in the game, with the Ferrari 599, Nissan GT-R and Dodge Viper GTS as standouts amongst the large roster. These vehicles can be raced around the six tracks in the game, including Daytona International Speedway, Fuji Speedway, and Suzuka Circuit. Each track will have two different track layouts as well.
The North American release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will also receive additional features, such as a Drift Mode that will evaluate a player's technique in specific zones around a course and car tuning adjustments to tweak a vehicle's performance. North American owners will also be able to race head to head with a two player split screen offline, and experience new race events offline and online.

The title supports up to 16 players online in races, which will add to the gameplay, and will be supplemented by Gran Turismo TV, a dedicated online channel from the PlayStation Network focused on racing programming and manufacturing content. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will also include a new cockpit racing view, dynamic AI, as well as a new physics engine, user homepage and DualShock 3 support.
"This impressive vehicle lineup and the additional features that cater to North American racing fans are great compliments to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's stunning 1080p graphics and revolutionary online features," said Scott A. Steinberg, the vice president of product marketing at SCEA. "Fans are sure to be pleased with the first Gran Turismo product for sale on PlayStation 3."

It is weird when I played the demo of this I thought it felt very sluggish. I would be driving 70-80 miles an hour and felt like I could get out and run faster then it was going. I tried it several times but couldn't get over this feeling.

Sim games in general feel slow to me after playing stuff like Burnout and Midnight club. I found myself having more fun with the smaller cars like the Lotus in the demo. My better half liked the newer JPN demo more and she wants it. I'm horrible at sims but I'm sure I'll play it. They do make good very good use of the dual shock as well.

Did you play the older U.S. GT HD demo with the Norwegian mountain background or the Japanese demo with lots of other cars on the track that has the cockpit view?

Looking at some gameplay videos on the web the London background looks pretty sweet.

I think it must have been the older U.S. one.

Ok, cool. Maybe they'll release another demo beforehand, but who knows.

I just played the demo. It looks pretty cool, but did feel kind of sluggish. I agree with Goat though, it's just how sims work I guess.

I didn't get as strong feeling of sluggishness on PGR3 or Forza.

PGR3 felt fast to me, Forza not so much. Forza 2 is nice and buttery like GT games just not ultra fast, well from the demo I played.

I haven't picked up Burnout yet but I'm hoping it feels like the older ones more focused on just fast intense racing and dodging oncoming traffic and stuff.

Ahhh, I just got to play this last night. My brother brought the japanese version over... I am in love. I didn't think I was going to want to purchase the "Demo", but I think I will at this point.

Nice. Does the London track look as gorgeous as I imagine it does from the youtube gameplay videos?

It does. I was very surprised. Most of the time, simulation racing games are very bland in the backgrounds, but definitely not the case for GT5, though!

How do the backdrops and crowds look? In the US demo, they were horrible, especially the people cheering. The cars looked amazing, though. I won't be buying it at all (not into racing sims), but it's definitely a looker.
