Why the big HD?

I watched G4's "Attack of the show" and they talked about the PS3 storage. They mentioned that the games install on the hard drive via 'downloadable content'. Each game takes up about 5GB of space.

Each game at 5GB? That's crazy! Is it a permanent install or like a cache?

Good question. Kevin did not clarify. He just said that the games are 5GB and Olivia was like 'wow! The more games you want, the more it looks bleak to have the 20GB".

They mentioned nothing about cache. They said that there were going to start talking about some of the 'unknowns' about the PS3 and what people should know prior to purchase.

They are doing a 3 hour special on launch day. There doing a 'console war' update, "Can the PS3 dethrone the 360?".

I hope before then, they will provide more information.

Yeah, kinda lame that they won't give out the information BEFORE people purchase. If each game requires 5GB of space, even with the 60GB, you could only own 10 games (assuming 10GB for OS, etc)?? That's crazy. I hope that's not the case and its simply a cache or something. But dang, imagine the wait time to cache a game or even copy 5GB of data every time you wanted to play. Something about this doesn't make sense at all.

OK, I looked at the show. Here's what Kevin basically said.

Games on the BR disc might have to install some game data onto the hard drive. This can be a small amount or up to 5GB. This is needed to speed up gameplay.

Also, Bluetooth will not make it first the release but that doesn't mean it won't be available in the future.

USB KB and mouse work on the PS3.

Alright. That makes much more sense. It is more of a game cache on the disc then. Cool. Since its caching, it should not be permanent. Does that mean bluetooth will not be available on the early release consoles but will be on later ones? Interesting.

They said BT will be 'enabled' in the future.

It could be game/disc cache. I don't know. I wonder how long it will take to copy 5GB?

They said if you had multiple titles that need the 5GB of space, then the storage space goes nil.

It's gonna take a bit for them to work out their launch kinks.

I am glad I'm waiting until next year.
