Tournament idea: Fall Pentathlon

So I was listening to the Bungie podcast (all glory to Bungie) and they mentioned that they have a "Winter Pentathlon." Which got me thinking, we have a crap ton of games coming out this fall and a bunch already out and it'd be cool to have another tournament, but on a grander scale.

I was thinking 5 games, teams of 6. Double elimination, rounds based.

For the five games we could have:

- Shooter (Halo 3, TOB)
- Racer (Forza)
- Arcade (Catan, Pac-Man, etc...)
- Sports (Football?)
- ?

It might be hard to find 5 games that everyone owns, but we could just do that at least one person per team has to own the game. So the Halo 3 round would be a full 6v6 and then the Forza round might just be 2 v 2 and then the Pac-Man round could just be a score-attack.

The logistics are a bit tough, but I think it could be pretty fun and it would give those on the boards who aren't twitchy caffeine-addled shooter jockeys a chance to shine (because unbelievably, not everyone thinks Halo 3 is the second coming).

Does this interest any one?

Sweet. I've seen a few olympic-type events at sites. Hard to pull off, but it could be fun. I'd be into it. I'd definitely love to do some non-FPS event stuff.

I'd like to get an arcadey-racer like Burnout:Paradise into the mix...

We couldn't manage a tourney with 6 people on a team in one game, times that by 5 and it would be a disaster.

I think this is a really cool idea! Especially for someone like myself who is decent at a lot of games but not great at any. Maybe this would work better with smaller teams (two man teams?) and make it really casual as far as when to play your matches (kinda like scheduling your own matches on Madden).

I think Lord Geoff and myself might have a good shot at getting "Gold" in Galaga. Then again, we are some old-school gamers!

Edit: Or maybe we really open it up to any 360 game and have signups for all of them. Maybe only four people sign up for Tiger Woods, but that's cool. Heck, it's almost like everyone gets a medal for that event!

An easy way to get around this would be to just have two teams with a list of popular games to choose from - throw up a multiple-vote poll and the top five (or let's say three) get picked for this...

Slow down with the criticism, cowboy. I'm just throwing ideas out. But I think the general idea of having several games to play instead of just one is interesting and worthwhile.
