A suggestion on teams
Hey, I threw some crap just like everyone else did (all in fun, really...really!), but I have a couple of ideas that maybe some of you might want to discuss: team sizes and number of games...
During whatever tournament comes up next (looks like everyone wants a CoD4 one), maybe instead of having a bunch of little teams, we had just two big teams like the CoD3 one was like, or maybe three total... more like a 'best of' over a series of matches or something?
I know it was hard for a lot of people to commit to every game, and it put the rest of the people at a disadvantage during this last one. This way, if people can't show up, there's probably gonna be someone to step in.
As for the number of games or matches, I know my butt was dragging on some of them second (and third makeup) matches... Would just one match per night, like maybe best 2/3 be better?
Just shouting out some ideas here... don't know how anyone else feels about these things but it might help things run smoother the next time around?

I think it's a great idea. Bigger teams will be nice and we don't have to push the button!

i prefer smaller teams, and that would ensure the least amount of connection problems, i would prefer that the next tourny isnt ran threw so fast, that halo tourny put a beatin on me, lets spread out the love a little bit, maybe more like a league rather than a tourny

Great ideas guys. Thanks for starting the thread Thornes!
We've been chatting over random ideas for the next tourney and all of the thoughts and comments are helpful. Keep up the brainstorming. Obviously we won't be able to adopt them all, but hopefully we can piece something together and have an awesome Frankenstein-like tourney with all the best ideas thrown together!

I think a two army system won't work due to the lack of 24-player support in CoD4. 4 teams fighting over one map(made up of all of the MP maps) may get tricky though. 2 squads on each team? I don't know, all I know is Blue sucks.

Absolutely guys, keep it coming. We are considering another war format, with a slight twist. I'm not ready to reveal everything yet until we have a better grip on it. I do want to keep hearing ideas though and thoughts on how we can make the war system better.
Along those lines, also please tell what you like and don't like about the war format. The main complaints that I heard were: - Teams got uneven too quickly (in both directions)
- Fighting on the same map for 5 rounds got old.
- Playing every week was too much.
- Keezy keeps disappearing randomly and reappearing behind me.
We're working to resolve these issues before COD4 comes out. We need to know a little more about the game as well. Will it be 16 player? Any new formats coming in, etc? How many teams are there potentially?
Thanks for the input guys! I want to make this one a good one... it should rock through the holidays.

Well, what I was hoping we'd be able to avoid this time around is sitting in the lobby waiting for peeps to show up for 45 minutes... This put teams behind for the next event, which threw them in a lobby waiting, etc etc...
I thought the bi-weekly matches worked pretty well; maybe odd teams on odd weekends, even teams on even weekends? One bigass bash at the end with odd winner vs even winner? I dunno...
One thing that really seemed to hit on people's nerves that I noticed though was the extreme competition that smaller teams ended up with - which is what seemed to put a stain on the Halo tourney, you know? I don't recall that kind of itch with the CoD3 thing because not everyone was there for every match.

I like matches on Friday nights. I also liked both team formats (2 or multiple smaller teams). The COD3 was the best ever, and orange is gay.

I had a lot of fun with the COD3 war, and I think it was set up very well. I like the idea of two larger teams with plenty of players available. It's better to have too many players than not enough.
By the way, blue is lame because they're a bunch of support gun using losers! (How's that for bringing up an old topic? )

 now see... that's exactly why I love the War format. The smack. The war's been over for 6 months or more, and still everyone loves to bring it.
On the lobby waiting, yeah that stinks. That also is a great factor about the war format. We had everyone start gathering about 11:30 or so and the matches (at least supposedly) started at midnight. With so many people per team, there's no waiting for player X to show. You just go with who you got.
Anyone got any suggestions for how to keep teams even?
Last year we were supposed to keep teams even by slowly adding players weekly to whatever team was behind. If you were behind, you were supposed to get dibs on whoever signed up that week. However, that quickly fell by the wayside as one team had a miserable showing (few showed up) in week 2. They needed players who would show, so they got a bunch at once. Then the balance swung the other way... in a big way, because that group was a bunch of players who played the game non-stop. So I'm looking for a way to balance the teams on a weekly basis to provide good, close battles that everyone will enjoy-- from those who just suck all the way up to the people who play the game relentlessly. I've got one idea, but I'm not sure if it's going to work. So please throw out any good ideas you have to account for this factor.

What if we had everyone rate themselves (either on COD4 or FPS' in general) on a scale of 1 to 3. Others could call BS if someone either undervalued or overvalued themselves. Then, we could have a solid pool of 1s, 2s and 3s for two captains to choose from or be randomly assigned, with a requirement of a certain number of each ranking. At the end, the totals of each team and all its members could be added up, and we could make some small adjustments to even things out.
It's clear in my head but muddled here. Just a thought...

Hey, Don't blame the blue team because you guys were to busy having a big Orange "Creamsicle" party in that little house on the dam map!!
We were going to wait until you guys finished up but Brew finally said " to hell with this sitting around S!#t " and started yelling something about your "Boyfriends / Life partners showing up" and then the chaos began.
In all fairness though, I did feel pretty bad when we were just mowing you guys down as fast as you were spawning. But not bad enough to quit pulling the trigger when you ran out.
I also agree with AZ on this. I do think it is easier to have 2 big teams like we did with COD 3 although I think we may have to wait and see what options we have to work with in the lobby while trying to set up a match.
