COD2 was a classic. I'd recommend it to anyone. The COD series always has great maps and game modes. It's a little more run and gun than the R6 series, but IMHO it's easier to pick up than Halo. You're gonna like it.
Milk, on the live draft... if you mean just the captains getting together to pick teams, that's what we did last time and it worked fine. We did it over the net using google spreadsheets though, not XBL. It was much easier to keep track of. Getting more than the captains together is impossible.
On the aspect of more than 2 teams, there's some possibility there. I was going that way as well, but with a twist. I need more game info, because team size is pretty important. COD3 was supposedly 24 players, wasn't it? We had more than 20 per team and still had trouble filling slots on some nights-- but on other nights we had people who couldn't get in. So I need to know how many will be able to play online at the same time. I'm thinking this one's 16, or 8 per side. ANyone know?

I think you are right with that number. If I recall they will have 16 per room. I don't know what type of game variations there will be but I'm sure we will see some of the same stuff like we did in the beta.
As for the team formats, I don't think there is a really perfect way to go about it. When you set up the COD 3 war I thought that was a great format but we immediately had people complaining about the teams not being fair. I think it is easier with bigger teams. You have a better opportunity to fill a room vs. having small teams of 6 or 8. The problem with that is when you are missing 1 - 2 people then you are really out numbered. as we witnessed is the Halo tourney.
I say you model this after the COD 3 War but maybe with a few backup plans when we have to many or not enough people showing up. Unfortunately its always easier on paper.
Thanks for all your efforts with this. We wouldn't even be talking about any of this if you didn't step up and organize it for us. You Rock Man!!!

I don't want the same teams as last time. I wanna feel like there's actually going to be a challenge this time around.

Here's what I was thinking about teams:
Basically have a two-team setup, but have a third "team" or group: the Mercenaries. The mercenaries, instead of serving a one-week probationary period and being added to a team, are full-time sluts of death with no loyalties. They play for whoever needs them that night.
What I haven't figured out is how to reward the Mercs. We could have a merc leaderboard, and keep track of their earnings -- say $1,000 for a win and $500 for a loss. Then give the winner a little reward from the site, whether it's bragging rights or a sig banner, or whatever. Playing as a merc would have its benefits, but there's no guarantee that you'd get a spot in a game every week. This setup works best if we have enough for two teams, but not enough for 3.
I'm thinking as I type here, but we could also do the merc thing if we just had three straight teams, provided we have enough people. We could alternate (like Thornes idea) and the off team could serve as mercs... that way everyone gets in on the merc'ing, gets a week off if they want, and still gets to be part of an army.
Since everyone seems to enjoy teamkilling so much, I was also toying with a new gametype that could be one round in the evening's festivities. Betrayal. The teams play the same game... this is probably best suited for search and destroy or straight slayer. Only this time, the mercs step in, and the tk'ing begins. The mercs on each side kill anyone they see, regardless of what team they are on. The team that wins (out of the two armies battling) still wins. The mercs whose team loses get the bigger payout.
Let me know what you think of these ideas. And thanks guys! We'll get something good going here.

The problem with assigning rank is... both teams may have 3 GREAT players each, but maybe the 3 great people from Team 1 show up every week, and the 3 great people from Team 2 show up only so often. I guess I'm saying that if we do rank people, reliability will be just as important as skill.
I think a good tourney:
1. Is about fun first and winning second.
2. Allows for some smacktalk, which means that you'd stay with a given team.
3. Doesn't become a chore. I HATED the COD3 tourney towards the end. I only signed up because I was the general Lag sucked!
4. Is flexible enough to meet everyone's schedule, but strict enough that it doesn't fizzle out, unfinished.
COD4 will be MUCH better than 3. I played the Beta with little lag issues at all. That was my main beef with 3... and it just felt off.
I'm really diggin the Merc idea. Once a merc, always a merc. This would be a good thing for people who are week-to-week. I go out of town every other Friday, and sometimes I just don't feel like lugging my 360 around. Betrayals would be fun... I always loved the intermissions we would take between matches, where it was basically a team killing party.
