| | Lobby Regular | If we do switch to Pro I wanted the records back to 0-0. We started on All Pro we finish on All Pro. Everyone needs to suck it up and learn to play the game. Why do you wanna to play a game that isn't a challenge? We move it to Pro and everyone is throwing for 300+ yards, rushing for 150+ yards, and has 100+ yard receivers. You can do this on All Pro you just have to have bunch of different pass and run plays. Is this league suppose to be about big stats and scoring or about a good competition. Once we move it to Pro the teams that know this game well will run away with the league. Ask A SpecialFriend. Me and him have been playing each other in Madden for years. Up til this year I was for the most part unstoppable. He won here and there, but most times I won. This game comes out and we play on All Pro and I struggle to beat him. It becomes a fair match-up. We played 4 games the other night on Pro, I won all four and only one of them was remotely close.
So either way is fine with me, but if we go to Pro, I want the season records zeroed out. Or we play out this season on All Pro and you all put your diapers away and step it up! If I wanna play on Pro I will go turn on the Sega and pop in Tecmo Bowl!!!!
If we go to Pro and we do not wipe the records clean, then just rule me out this year. Cause on Pro I 'guarentee' I am 2-0. Thats just my opinion. Take it or leave it!
Does this all even matter anyway? Halo 3 come out in a week baby!!!!!!!

It comes down to gameplay and how you use your QB, really. If your QB's feet aren't properly set, he's gonna toss one up. Period.
Let's see how it goes. I think we can all come to some consensus.

| I hate to be the stick-in-the-mud on this one (or whiner... you chose), but I still hate the 'hail-mary' style passing on Pro.
I'm not saying that PGL'rs will cheese and use it the whole game... I'm more concerned about the OTHER scenario.
You're down the whole game, you fight your way back you're up by 1.. or 3.. or so and it's late in the 4th...
What is ANYONE going to do... knowing it's Madden?? They're gonna start going to the the big-bomb plays... and in all of the Maddens before, these bomb plays have such high unrealistic completion percentages...
I mean - it's like: "OK, I have 25 seconds left... and 4 shots at a bomb...." Granted once in a blue moon, that will actually work - but in MADDEN - 4 bombs in a row, you're guaranteed an 80 yrd gain.
UGH!! I mean I get frustrated just thinking about it as I post this!!
You play a good, smart game - and then end up losing it in the last 25 seconds due to Maddenism!
Maybe it's just me, but Quo, as you may recall, I think I had the lowest point differential in the league during my 0-9 slide last season! That's what's driving my vote... (which i have yet to cast).

| I suck, I admit it. And I've thrown probably 20 interceptions in my last two games. There were, however, a few instances where the defender literally shot 20 yards to intercept the ball. That's not very realistic.
But what MVP says is a concern I had in the back of my mind. Those who know how to play the game will be able to walk all over those of us (like me) who don't. At least with all-pro my computer controller friend (lets call him Madden), will at least intercept the ball on occasion.

| And while I'm already ranting... let me put out my real world example... Last game - playing Causedawg.
I was up 7-6 in the 4th, 40-some seconds lefts, I had just stopped Cause... Rather than just taking a knee, I was like 'ok, i'll play it out and put the opportunity out there" (yeah - i know, my bad...).
So I ran a couple of running plays... sure enough - I think on the second or third one I fumbled... but my immediate thought was - great - here come the Madden Bombs and I'm gonna lose by 2...
Luckily on the AP setting that didn't happen... On Pro, I'm not so sure the outcome would have been the same.
Moral of the story? Sit on the ball in the 4th when you have the lead inside of 2 mins??? ick...

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Hendersonville, North Carolina Age: 40 | Well, I just got through playing Unseen... and I've gotta tell ya, I think the bombs, etc. are more fun than the turnovers. I'll check out Pro tonight with Schlick and hopefully Lord Sam tonight. I threw 4 int's. Granted, I threw one into coverage. But the other three? Complete nonsense. On one, a linebacker playing over the middle lunged out to int a slant pattern to an outside receiver... not a slot receiver... and outside receiver. That's pretty over the top.
The lag was brutal... I was tapping A, trying to get Romo to snap the ball... the game wasn't responding, then all of the sudden it must've taken a double tap, because Romo snapped the ball and without even a step passed the ball to Whitten and he fell forward for a 6-yard gain. Nice. Whatever!

Personally I think it will make little difference in the results of games because its not like one person is playing on all pro and the other on pro. Both players are on the same level and when playing all-pro, I actually think the game is a little more realistic. If you make a dumb throw, your going to pay the price. In pro level, that pick may be dropped out of the kindness of Madden's lower level. However, that same pick would be dropped for the opponent, no? All-pro just makes you think twice before rolling out to the right and throwing back to the other side of the field. I voted for all pro but honestly I shan't throw a fit if we change to pro because I really think the results will be unaffected.
Kama
Now, lets hurry up and get this figured out cause I wanna play my game!

I played a half last night on Pro online. I totally agree with Keezy. The main difference is the speed at which the D-line comes in. Having less time to throw, you tend to make more mistakes and that results in more int's. Having said that, there were still int's on Pro.
Madden penalizes you a lot more this year for throwing on the run or off your back foot. I think they went too far with it... some QB's naturally throw well on the run (McNabb, Romo, I'm sure there are others) while others have a lot of trouble. As many ratings as they have, they should have at least factored that in.
I'm not sure why they didn't stop by here to vote, but both OohChit and Unseen have indicated to me that they want to stay on All-Pro. With that in mind, the vote is currently 10-7 for All-Pro. 6 votes are still out there other than mine.
In the long run, I don't think there's much difference. You either have the tension of the potential bomb that could happen at any time, or you have the tension of worrying that you can't even throw the ball at all. I think "potential bomb" tension is more fun, but I can understand why people want to stay on All-Pro.
Are there any other thoughts out there? I want this decided by Thursday night.

3 comments:
1) In our quarter, I remember Kama throwing one ill advised pass that my cornerback dropped. Kama immediately said that if we were playing All-Pro, that would have been caught. I agree, however, I don't think there's anything wrong with a cornerback dropping a ball. I see it all the time when I watch football on sundays. It happens, in real life, but not in All-Pro. Cornerbacks generally don't have better hands than receivers. If they did, they'd be receivers. The next play or two later, he threw a good pass into single coverage and my cornerback leaped in front and intercepted the ball, so it's not like interceptions are gone and done away with on the Pro level.
2) In addition to excess turnovers, one thing I've noticed that I've had problems with and seen other people make mention of is interceptions being returned for touchdowns, A LOT. I dont know what it is, if it's that cornerbacks get a 20 point speed boost after an INT or what, but on All-Pro, sometimes the only way I can score is with an interception returned for a TD. That's been the case for me a number of times.
3) Like Kama and many others, I will have a great time in this league regardless of what decision is made. All-Pro definitely does make you think before you throw the ball, and I think that's great. However, I also think it gives significant advantages to the defense that I believe are very unrealistic. I'll give you an example: I had Carolina as one of my defenses on my fantasy football team. I dropped them like a hot potato yesterday because they haven't done anything this year so far. The only way Carolina can score is by throwing the ball to Drew Carter and Steve Smith. So why is it that while playing Madden on All-Pro, my defense is the only thing that keeps me in the game?

| There IS a third option that can be added to the Poll that would end alllllll of the nonsense and up the realism: C) Drop Madden and go w/ 2K All Pro Football!! Sorry - had to throw it out there...
(oh - and it'd resolve our stat issue to by maintaining the entire league)

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Hendersonville, North Carolina Age: 40 | We have 9 All-Pro votes, 8 Pro votes.
7 votes remain. Although some haven't voted, they have expressed an opinion. Here they are:
Schlick
Quo
Unseen - All Pro
OohChit - All Pro
JSBfan - Pro
Woundup
SeahawksTD4
So I consider the current vote count to be 11-9 in favor of All-Pro, with 4 votes remaining.
Like BMC, I think everyone's on the same playing field. I'm going to cast my vote for All-Pro and just gut it out. It's now 12-9. I hate the int's, but I think as we continue to play it will iron itself out.
Interesting that we had 2-3 weeks of pre-season and this wasn't mentioned until this week. What I think that may mean is that people will get used to it as they play more. Just a thought.
