Proposed scoring system for Forza league

I'm still not quite sure on how this point total works. Is it a running tally per team? I feel to make it the most competetive and keep things close you should take the total teams tally, divided by the average number of players that actually raced, divided by the total race nights played per team. This will give you a team average, and even the no lifers with the weekend warriors

So if the green teams races looked like this:

day 1 - 35, 44, 53, 62 = total tally of 194
day 2 - 28, 12, 16 = total tally of 56
day 3 - 45, 60 = total tally of 105

This would give you a team tally of 355. You had 9 players that raced 3 nights a week. So this divided by the number of race nights would give you an average of 3 race nights per week. You then take this number and divide it by 3, which is the average number of racers that raced that week to get the team average.

355/3=118.33/3=39.44 So you get a team average of 39.44

Red team example.

day 1 - 22, 28, 12, 38 (100)
day 2 - 55 (55)
day 3 - 12, 75, 39, 46 (172)
day 4 - 55, 80, 14 (149)........(476)

This would yield a team average of 39.66

That's a much more competetive score than the 355 vs 476. This would take into consideration some playing way more than others and keep the team totals more in line.__________________

Or to make it really easy in laymans terms: divide the total score by total number of races to get an average. I always tend to over complicate things.

I'm right there with ya Alter. I can probably easily tally that as well. It messes up two things: Double points nights (for special events) and it takes away some incentive to play often. I'll give it some thought though... I may end up rigging my spreadsheet to keep track of both options. Tallying both options gives you a picture of who's racing consistently the best AND gives a picture of who's showing up for their team.

On another note, I think I'm dropping the whole "two-man advantage rule" that I listed. We had 4 from one team in a room Friday night and there was no blocking that I know of. We can just make it a courtesy rule that unless we're playing cat and mouse, there should be no blocking. We've got an honest adult bunch here and I think it'll be fine.

If it becomes a problem, we'll address it then. For now, the only requirement is that there be more than one team represented. I guess to keep the scoring fair, we should keep it where no more than 4 racers from the same team be in the same room.

Double points nights wouldn't be affected at all. You're still averaging all the games played, and those games would just get doubled thus raising the average.

You might set up different weekly bonuses. For example you might have a bonus for the team that has the most players in a room that week, or the most games played throughout the week, or the team that has the members with the highest points for a given night, etc. For each weekly bonus you can award that team a 100 point bonus which would increase their average.
Just throwing out ideas.

Cool man, nice ideas. I never pass up good ones!

I will definitely track both ways. This first effort at this type of format will be kinda a "test run" so we'll get an idea of what's best as we go along. We'll definitely have to make some adjustments... but it'll be fun.
