Georgia came into the Bayou on a mission, and they didn't seem to want to let up for the entire afternoon.
It was a usual hot and humid day as both teams took the field. LSU came out swinging, and stopped the Dawgs for a 3 and out to force a punt on the opening series. Then, they drove the ball right down the field. They hit a snag when Defensive Coordinator Willie Martinez (UGA) sent two extra linebackers, and thus sent Matt Flynn to the turf on 2nd down, forcing a 3rd and 13. Unable to convert....barely, LSU was forced to attempt a field goal:
A field goal that JUST squeaked through. In fact, all players waiting on the announcers to tell them one way or another. But yes, it was indeed good. Unfortunately for LSU, that would be about the only spot of good in the first half.
Georgia took the next possession and drove the length of the field, immediately answering LSU by capping off the drive with a touchdown to their fullback, Brannon Southerland:
At this point, LSU was hoping to regroup, but UGA had other plans.
A fumble by LSU just shy of midfield was returned by Asher Allen for a touchdown.
And then, very late in the 2nd quarter, Matt Flynn dropped back and threw another interception when trying to force something downfield. With less than 30 seconds and the ball just inside LSU territory, UGA threw a swing pass to their playmaker, Thomas Brown:
This would set up another Brannon Southerland (FB) touchdown with 6 seconds left, ending a 28 unanswered point quarter for the Dawgs, and putting an early nail in LSU's coffin.
The second half saw UGA scoring a touchdown early off another Asher Allen interception, and then settling into a pure running game for the remainder. LSU, however, found renewed life when Matt Flynn was taken out in favor of backup quarterback, Ryan Perrilloux. His combination of speed and throwing power provided a much needed spark. He didn't finish the day unscathed, throwing 2 picks of his own, but did provide the only LSU drive for a touchdown in the 4th quarter. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start a few games over Flynn for LSU this season.
Matthew Stafford (QB, Georgia) would finish with a 225 QB rating, only throwing for 118 yards, but completing 77% of his passes, and adding a touchdown and no interceptions.
Thomas Brown (RB, Georgia) was the playmaker for the day, racking in 73 yards on the ground, and 97 yards receiving. When UGA needed a play, Thomas was the man they looked to.
LSU finished the day with 6 turnovers, which led to Les Miles throwing his fabled, high-rising hat in the post game interview, adding: "I tell ya, we have a game like that again, and you'll be seeing our players come out of the tunnel wearing tutus instead of pants." He then stormed off the stage...but returned a few seconds later to grab his hat from under a chair.
UGA - 42
LSU - 10

Yeah, this weeks poll was frustrating as hell, but I think it's a lot of fun! Can't wait to see the newest Coach's Poll! I think there's going to be a lot of shake up!
Yeah, this weeks poll was frustrating as hell, but I think it's a lot of fun! Can't wait to see the newest Coach's Poll! I think there's going to be a lot of shake up!
Indeed! I only need polls from a couple of teams but either way I'll post it up this evening. I might go back and update it but it shouldn't change too much.
Georgia, Ohio St., and Oklahoma all make huge leaps!
Three teams made early statements by zooming up the coaches poll after week one. Georgia moved up eight spots to #3 with an impressive 42-10 win over LSU. Ohio St, the new kid on the block, moved up six spots also to #3 with a 13-0 shutout win over Flordia. Oklahoma also shot up six spots to #6 thanks to a big conference win over Texas, 17-10.
Of course, we had some teams that dropped big in the polls. Florida (#15) and LSU (#13) but dropped eight places in the poll, while Texas #9 dropped five spots.
USC and Michigan remain 1-2 on the top of the list

Reason: Got another coach's votes
The Sooners went into the Horse Shoe and showed the Buckeyes how to play defense, with 2 ints for touchdowns. The game started slow with a Oklahoma punt, but after a 60 yard drive, Todd Boeckman was picked off by Robert Smith, who ran the pick back 79 yards for the 1st score.
End of 1st Quarter OKL 7 OSU 0
The Sooners and Buckeyes exchanged punts until Pettery from the Buckeyes hit a 37 yard field goal at the end of the half.
End of 2nd Quarter OKL 7 OSU 3
The third quarter started a lot like the 1st quarter as Boeckman again was picked off for a Sooner touchdown, but this time it was Harris and it was only 38 yards.Pettery also hit another field goal to end the 3rd quarter.
End of 3rd Quarter OKL 14 OSU 6
The game looked like Oklahoma was just going to cruise to a victory , until Todd Boeckman hit Chris Wells on a screen pass and ran down the sidelines for 65 yard touchdown. After the TD (3 minutes left), Ohio State down 14-12, decided to go for two, but Boeckman was sacked on the 2 point conversion.
On the next possession Oklahoma fumbled on the 30 yard , but Ohio State could not drive the ball and had to settle for a 20 yard field goal.
So with 2 minutes left in the game , Ohio State kicked off to the Sooners , who ran the kickoff back 40 yards to the Ohio State 30 yard line.
Oklahoma then just ran the ball and the clock down to 2 seconds until Hartley hit a 20 yard field goal as time expired!
Hey Sam, would it be possible to add Last weeks ranks along with the current polls? For example: #5 Florida State 1-0 Last Week #11 (Or whatever they were).
