New Core2 Duo MacBook Pros are out!

Sigh...

Since I've had to give up my MacBookPro.. I've still been frequently looking at Mac stuff... looks like they came out with the MacBookPros with the Core2Duo chips inside.

The cpu speed slight boost from 2.16 to 2.33GHz and the added boost from the 32bit to 64bit processing

They also added an additional gig of ram bumping it up to 2gigs default.

The Superdrive is upgraded as well...

All for the same low low price of 2799! yikes..

It'll be interesting seeing how much better it performs on the upcoming OS X since it specifically utilizes the 64 bit processing.

I hate Mac's just for the simple reason that they are way over priced

They're only overpriced if you compare them to a $500 Dell.

There's nothing like using a computer that had an OS built specifically for every component inside it.

Nothing like it. Well, maybe skydiving the first time, but that's it.

This isn't new at all, but man I want this on my next mac. I write in the dark so much.

Illuminated Keyboard

"Where else can you find a backlit keyboard? MacBook Pro has a built-in ambient light sensor that adjusts the keyboard and display brightness for optimal visibility."

and that's one thing that I miss the most from my macbook pro. I type a lot in the dark as well and especially going from keyboard to keyboard, the layout and size of the keys are slightly different for each keyboard!

The ambient light sensor as well, for the brightness of the screen as well as the keyboard illumination was freakin' awesome!

I agree with Wonder, though. After using the Mac extensively for those few weeks that I had it, then going back to the Windows OS, I can honestly say the WinXP OS and even Vista (beta) have been severely lacking in terms of functionality, stability, among other things. After using a Mac I can say, "It just works" plain and simple!

This is coming from an AVID pc guy as of like a few months ago!

Woundup might have been alittle brash in his statement guys, but I gotta tell ya I agree. The cool factor is high, but man! You can get a comparable or better windows machine for half that, can't you? I'm not bashing cause I think they're super sexy. I just don't see where that money goes.

yeah a comparable machine would probably be half of that, but until you really stick your feet in all the way, you never really know what you're missing out on.

I think, in my case, it's an instance of "you get what you pay for."

My laptop which was only like 1500 was not quite up to the same level but, it was almost there and it was nearly half of the cost of the MacBook Pro 17", but there are a lot of inherent things that I do not like that come as a package with this PC Laptop and PCs in general. If you buy a premade one (the only way you can do it for laptops) but even desktops, you get a whole slew of programs on the computer that you don't need or won't ever use. Just wasted space and wasted time trying to uninstall them.

Not to mention the desktop icons. This toshiba laptop when it came factory default had 3 rows of icons pre-set to the desktop! Each row holding over 10 icons each. That just gives you a glimpse of how much extra fluff is on there that you won't really need!

I guess that's a minor annoyance. Does that alone warrant the cost of switching to a comparable mac? No, but that is just one example and there are a handful of other examples just like that that make a Mac worth it to me.

I would definitely imagine you could, sure.

But then you're stuck with a Windows machine.

It's tough to explain, but there's a reason that you don't switch back to Windows voluntarily after you go mac.

And don't worry, you can knock them all you want, I'm not over-protective. (Secretly, us mac folk don't really want people switching. We like not having virus software or spyware programs to run. The more people that switch the more likely we'll start having to run virus software and worry about that)
