I think Brad summed up my thoughts exactly. I can see how people absolutely love this game, especially fans of the series. The graphics, audio, etc. are amazing! I think I'm just not as big of a fan of the series/storyline as others, so I find myself getting a little bored at times.

But, that's why they make so many different games!

I've played this for about three hours off and on over the past couple of days. So far, it's a love/hate thing. First, the good. The graphics, audio quality and voice work are top notch. Some of the cutscenes look almost photo-realistic (Drebin's hair, as stupid as it sounds, impressed me the most so far). This game looks just as good on my 84" screen as it does on my 32" LCD. No nasty aliasing or anything. That can't be said for a lot of other games out there. Texture work is excellent as well.

Now the bad. I won't mention cutscenes as that's already been discussed, but I will say that out of the three hours I've played, around half of that or more were cutscenes. A lot of the cutscenes feel like a cheesy-keezy B-movie to me. The controls are super awkward and I still haven't gotten used to them (the PS3 controller sucks in general, for me). Also, I know the humor is an acquired taste, but most of it is simply just toilet humor. Pretty unfunny stuff in my opinion. Must be a Japanese thing.

Overall, I'll probably end up finishing it as I spent the better half of a day watching all the retrospective videos. I'll probably pick it up down the road for $30 or so, but I wouldn't pay $60 for it as it's not something I see myself playing all the time. Personally, I think it's more of a technical achievement for the PS3 than it is an entry into the MGS franchise.

Just wow, yes this is a huge technical achievement for the PS3 but this is absolutely a great entry into an already great series. This game and the series for that matter have been received with love or hate comments and I can see why some that don't care for previous entries don't care for this but it is the Grand Daddy of em all as far as the series goes.

Wow. An amazing game and a feat of story telling. If there is a way to end it all, this is it.

Everyone has their own opinion and point of view, Deputy. Still, I think the storyline needs a lot of work. It's not that it's confusing (that's actually part of the story), but there are a lot of extraneous material that adds absolutely nothing to the game that could have been thrown away. Of course, just my opinion. It's a lot like a film in that regard.

And for the record, I haven't skipped over a single cutscene yet.

Glad you watched them all

I was really referring to the lengthy chit-chats between Snake and Otacon. Some of the stuff they were talking about was reiterated numerous times through the conversation. I got it the first time. I just think that they went a bit overboard with the dialogue during those chats and cutscenes.

The facial expressions in this game are top notch, why not use those sometimes? I'm probably just nitpicking. I am enjoying the game more than I thought I would, though.

Ah, I see! I didn't mind it much- I think most of the games are like that.
