Well I don't mind not being able to follow flashbacks too much - I sort of expect not to be able to follow a lot of the story & that's fine. I know a tiny bit about it, but not enough to tell who's who.

All I care about is not feeling cheated by controls and/or map limitations that don't make sense. In other words - if I choose to go in guns a blazing, I don't want to be frustrated getting killed over & over again until I find "just the right weak spot" to kill the baddie.

I haven't fought a boss yet, but I have certainly been mixing guns blazing and sneaking around. The gunplay is just too fun.

In games past, the boss battles have been somewhat strategic. You can't just keep shooting at it. Usually some tact was in order. It's usually not anything too crazy... just along the lines of realizing that you can use chaff grenades to disable homing missiles.

Yeah, most of this run through I've killed most things that come into my sights, without problem! As for the boss fight, I've only had one boss fight but there is still strategery. That's one of the things that I loved about this series better than any other series I've played. The boss fights could be downright tricky and (IMO) fun to figure out. The ways to defeat a boss were so innovative (Psycho Mantis, anyone?).

Most of the game you can get away with guns-a-blazing, but not really for boss fights.

I'm probably playing it on too easy of a setting (lesser of the normal modes) but I just fought the ACT III boss and it had some strategy but
Spoilers:
for a good portion he was easy, she would just hover in front of me, so I'd shoot some regular rounds in my M4 then use the grenade. The strategy was to simply stay away from edges and of course eat somethin if my damage meter went too low.

I have to say it was a pretty sweet battle with all the crazy unarmed weapons flying around. The effect of the building being torn to shreads is awesome! Audio, can't imagine it being better

hah. One thing for sure is I'm going back through it again on two settings harder. I chose easier as I'm not a vet to the series and thought I'd need to be to be somewhat successful.

I just started the game for the 2nd time and am trying to use the weapons and ammo that incapacitae the enemy instead of killing them. For the 1st playthrough, I only did that with the B & Bs and killed everyone else. Very hard on Act 1 when you don't have that choice yet, I was running around knocking people out or avoiding them all together. It is a lot harder to keep track of every one who can wake up and ruin your day.

Just a thought for those of you who want more challenge without going up a level.

Thats exactly what I do on my second run thru.

The boss fights were fairly easy, yet they were great.

I thought of you whilst playing Brewski. I was coming up to a point and thinking it was going to be the transition to Act III, and I got pissed because I didn't want to get another Act closer to the end.

Keez- it's either act 4 or 5 where you're in a certain 'place'- make sure to check every corner for some audio flashbacks (you too, Dylan).

Update on my lack of MGS4...

My PS3 is still in Pennsylvania. I talked to my buddy, and he offered to mail it back to me. I said no(beings as it's not under warranty and I really don't want to have to duke out an insurance claim with the USPS), and my MGS drought may last into July. He said he should be able to drive back end of the month, but I don't believe him.

This is the first time I have ever loaned out a console of mine, and you can bet your ass it will be the last. Enjoy the game for me guys...

Litch, if you're playing GoW tonight, I'll fill you in on the whole story so you can get caught up with the rest of us. Plan on being on late, it may take a while.
