I'm just curious about what it is that sets it apart from other games that causes it's cult following. Also, I know that Metal Gear Solid was supposed to go to the N64 at one point. As to whether or not it did, I can't say. However, I know for a fact that I rented a Metal Gear game once, and it was a 3D game. I've never owned a Playstation or a Game Cube, so that pretty much leaves the N64.
By the way, MGS fans, this is pretty neat: It's some site that does a retrospective look on different games, including the MGS franchise. MGS Retrospective Look Retrospective look on some other great franchises.
It's got video footage and lots of backstory on all the old games. Fun to watch (although I got bored watching the MGS one, since I have no experience playing it). I'll probably watch the Metroid one when I get a chance.

| The audio mix is very active so far. Reminds me a lot like Call of Duty, but a bit more natural and less in your face. It's also got a lot of subtlety to it that has already made me smile a couple times.
The graphics are great, obviously. I don't need to tell you that, though...

I know what I'm getting into when I sit down to watch a movie (a non-interactive, but great, experience). When I sit down to play a game, I expect somewhat constant interaction, with cutscenes here and there and never lasting more than 5-10 minutes.
To me, the cutscenes are what ruin the MGS franchise for me, and also the fact that I think the story is simply mediocre doesn't help either. I also don't like the way it's told. I want to play the game and learn about the story, not watch cutscene after cutscene. Do I possibly have ADD? It's 100% possible. What were we talking about? Seriously though, I get extremely bored with certain games, mainly the MGS and GTA franchises. Who knows, maybe MGS4 will convert me.
But as I said, different strokes for different folks. I respect everyone's opinion and I'm not going to bash anyone for liking it. Well, maybe DLitch, but that's because he's easy.

| Brad, if cutscenes are not your cup of tea, you will not be able to get into MGS4. It's just part of what the game is. Definitely give it a try, you might end up liking it, but I think it's kind of unlikely.
Ah well, back to playing for me! I'm about 3 hours into the game now...

| I'm only about an hour and a half in and everything looks and sounds awesome except that the hour and a half had 40 minutes of cutscenes. | | |

| I've played for about 5 hours and am absolutely compelled. Though a good chunk of that time was spent watching cinematic sequences, I've really not minded in the slightest.
There are so many weapons and lots of customizing to be done to certain weapons which is really cool. I've been really surprised at the attention to detail in this game. On top of that, the attention to the mundane, as well. I found myself wandering around a bit and found myself surprised at some of the stuff that they put in, JUST for kicks and giggles. On top of that, the addition of the iPod into the game, FREAKIN' GENIUS. Not some immitation MP3 player, it's an Apple iPod. Amazing stuff!
Anyway, I'm done for a day. Must rest my eyes before I play more tomorrow!
