| I have refused to read any reviews in depth, for fear of spoiling the story. But I couldn't help but look at that 9.9 and feel warm and fuzzy. If, and by "if" I mean "when", MGS4 is lauded as the best game of the year, GTA4 reviews are going to look silly. | |

| Very Excite!
MGS4 will convert a lot of people, and a solid Q4 line-up will assure their loyalty.

I going to have to sell plasma or something to be able to buy it. I don't think I can wait 3 days to rent it!

I played MGS(?) on the PSone and MGS2 on the PS2 and while I enjoyed them (Snake-eater was awful. I couldn't finish it), Hideo needs to give up his filmaker dream and just make fun games. The ridiculous story, teenage humor, and pseudo-political mini-movie cut-scenes have got to go.
I'd like to play it, but I won't buy a PS3 to do so. That's coming from a guy that has enjoyed some of the previous installments. The people buying PS3's for MGS already have them. That, coupled with the lack of advertising (Sony is promoting the crap-fest Haze more than MGS) tells me this is a game for the existing fanbase. It's not going to move many PS3s IMHO.

I loved the first 3 MGS games, and I'll admit each had their flaws, but that still didn't keep me(and a bunch of others) from enjoying them. The Metal Gear franchise is an acquired taste, no doubt, but it is still a venerable franchise that is still relevant.
That being said, MGS4 will be a lot different from past titles. Better camera, more structured missions, and more freedom to play as you like. While this is alienating some fans(I liked the wide-open mission design), it will allow some newcomers the opportunity to experience Metal Gear in a more easy-to-digest form. The story might turn some people off, so might 90-minute cutscenes, but those things aren't for newcomers.
I've been a Metal Gear fan for well over 10 years, and this game is closure for me. While I'm heartbroken the Solid Snake storyline is ending, it would be even worse if the last iteration wasn't done correctly. The way the fans want it. The Metal Gear storyline is a convoluted one, no ones arguing that. But it would be a disservice to fans to deny them the right of a proper ending. Kojima won't allow that, and I respect him for it.

Well it's probably Ubisoft promoting Haze and Konami not doing much for MGS.
As for the game, this could be the first MGS I get into (I've played a little of MGS2 and 3) as it sounds like the gameplay is much better. One of my big hold backs for playing games like MGS and Splinter Cell games are the clunky controls. It sounds like now you can even play in first person mode and move around, etc which will be cool. Plus the stealth elements look much better than before.
