The announcement of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was bittersweet for big fans of the franchise, primarily because Hideo Kojima revealed it would be the very last installment in the legendary series. However, we've heard this from him before - in not so many words - so many followers are still hoping for a MGS5. And thanks to something Ryan Payton said in the latest Kojima Report podcast, those hopes may soon become a reality (even if it's not technically MGS5, but another title in the MGS realm).
According to Kombo.com, Payton and the other guys started talking about the special pre-order disc, Metal Gear Saga: Volume 2, which is exclusive to North America and Europe. Payton began explaining the case for Volume 2, and why it would look so pretty on the shelf alongside Volume 1 (the pre-order bonus for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence). But he took it one step further:
"Have you seen the Metal Gear Saga: Volume 1, do you have that? It's in that same kind of clear DVD case, it's designed [indecipherable], it's got that embossed silver on it. We designed it just right, right next to the Volume 1, so if you put it on your shelf, it's gonna be, you know, symmetric, and it's going to look like a collection, so hopefully if there's a Volume 3, it's gonna look--" (what cames after this is tough to make out because Mark McDonald cuts in, but it sounds like Payton says, "it's gonna look awesome."
Er...if there's a Volume 3? Well, as Kombo theorized, if the first was a pre-order bonus for MGS3 and the second was a bonus for MGS4, then... Yeah, you can see where we're going with this. Truth is, Kojima has tried to leave before, and the fans basically freaked out, which in turn prompted him to stick around. Can MGS ever really die? Perhaps not.
