Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Milwaukistan, WI Age: 31 | Konami Reveals Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection Today, Konami Digital Entertainment has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection will be released for the PlayStation 2. This compilation, which is guaranteed to be a must-buy for all MGS fans, will include Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
We don't have a release date for this collection, but in the press release, they say it allows players to sample the MGS universe "before" Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots drops. The estimated date for that is June, so we should expect The Essential Collection before then.
"Since its inception, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has been one of the most successful game series in the history of video games, receiving worldwide recognition and praise," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. "Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection represents a great value for gamers, bringing together three must-have classic titles which pioneered the stealth action genre."
The package not only features the first three MGS installments, we get the Director's Cut of MGS2 and a MGS3 commemorative package, complete with artwork by esteemed franchise artist, Yoji Shinkawa. It will retail for $29.99, too, which only adds to the appeal. As soon as we hear about a release date, we'll be sure to let you know. link

| I dunno mang. I'm still ascared of the whole creep along stuff. I wasted many dollars on splinter cell games I never played. I'm still not convinced this won't end up the same. Had they given me a demo, I would have at least tried it, but I don't wanna drop more coin on a game I won't play. I have loads of games I've been itching to play at home but haven't yet had time. | |

| MGS has very little "required" sneaking. You can sneak through the entire game if your heart so desires, or you shoot everything to shiite. | |

| Oh dayum. So long as I can shoot beeeatches, I'm interested. I get bored too easily having to sneak around everything. | |

| Peench, I'm with you on the Splinter Cell games. For some odd reason, as much as I *liked* them, I never played them much. Double Agent got the most play, but that was simply because of the multiplayer.
But, the MGS series is a bit different, for me. It, indeed, is less sneaking than Splinter Cell, but there's still a bit of evading necessary in the game.
But, again, you may simply not like it, it's not a game that's for everyone...

| I have a backwards compatible PS3 so maybe I'll give one of the old ones a rent. Actually, maybe I'll just rent this one when it comes out. That way I won't have to outlay the cash for a full purchase. Get Your Gamez FTW! | |
