While I like the upgrades, esp the podcasts features.


Also I could not drag folders into the Zune desktop to import anymore...

Odd because I can still drag from the Zune desktop to the Zune icon to sync.

Syncing also seems a little slow. It is nice that you can break off, shut down zune and then it resumes again where it left off though.

Alot of my art is a mess too. It placed 1 set of podcasts in the same icon as another podcast...and my alb art is a mess.

Oh well...didn't think that I would spend all night messing with this. But it looks like that is what happened.



The software itself seems to work better than the old version. But it seems like everything else on my comp slows down..

I just did the update through the old Zune software. No options.

To clear up your album art, do this.

In Zune2 software stores it's databases in the folders
XP C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Zune\
Vista C:\Users\ AppData\Local\Microsoft\Zune\

• Exit Zune2 software
• Rename the following two files in the correct folder above:
  • ren ZuneStore.sdf ZuneStore.sdf.old
  • ren CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb CurrentDatabase_365.wmdb.old
• Restart Zune2 software and it will rebuild your collection.

Worked like a charm. None of the metadata is messed up in the media, the Zune software just didn't import it correctly from the old database files.

There are also a few features that are now missing from the new software that, I think, a few of us will be missing. No smart playlists, limited drag&drop, NO metatag editor (what?), poor sorting options, no paste album art function (by file only), limited rating system, can't drag songs from album to album, etc. My list keeps getting longer as I continue to try and use the software like I did the previous version. I can't wait for an update already. I'm using 3 programs for my media now. Why? If I have to use the Zune software for the Zune, then it better do the job of those 3 programs. If not, just let it work with Media Player.

Yeah it is like they jazzed it up but dumbed it down at the same time.

I think that they are trying to simplify the entire interface for the casual user.

I had renamed my database prior to the upgrade. Maybe I need to do it again.

It does look like you can sync data from your device to your computer now. I don't think that was an option before.

You could always copy media from your device to a pc.

Tried to rename again and it didn't work. But what I did notice were jpg files in my music folders that were not there before.

If the jpg files are incorrect, deleting them will allow the correct album art to display. Pain in the ass, but I am assuming that once this is cleaned up it will stay that way.
