Audiobooks on Zune
I was looking at downloading audiobooks to listen to on the Zune. So after looking around I decided to try my library. Sure enough audiobooks online available for DL...just one problem the files all had DRM which was not compatible with the Zune.
I downloaded a book to see what happend and nothing would recognize the files. So I deleted it and installed the software (overdrive media) and then downloaded the book again. This time files showed up in folders with the Zune logo them. They play fine in WMP but not on the Zune software.
So I ran them through Tunebite and about an 1 1/2 later it finished up. These 'cleaned' files will play without a problem in the Zune software and will sync to the device.
The 'books' are broken up into 'chunks' so you won't need to transfer the entire book and it also facilitates fast forwarding through the book itself. It takes less than a minute to do 57 minutes of a file. So although you can't book mark, if you make a note of where you were then you should be able to get back with relative ease.
There are also programs which will allow you to break up the files even futher if you wanted to....a little too much work for me.
I have been listening to biz books on the way to work taking the pain out of my communte...only problem is I tend to space out, entering my commute trance, and have to rewind every now and then.
All in all a very painless procedure and about the best way I could find to get audio books onto my Zune.

Doesn't this just make you put off learning how to read for even longer though.
You don't want to be the "I like twurtles" kid forever you know!

For long drives, an audiobook rules. This is cool. Who'd have thunk they had learning related things at the library! Craziness!!
Thanks for the primer Rhino!

One thing that sucks with audio books and the Zune, same goes for audio podcasts. NO STINKING BOOKMARKS. You can't resume where you left off.

but cant you break the audio up into as many self-made chapters as you want? like set the maximum track length to like 5min or something, then every 5min it will start a new file

I like listening to the Achievement Junkie podcasts in the car. I also really enjoy the "commuter trance" that you mentioned. I am 25 miles from the store, with most of it being highway, so I find myself snapping to at my exit pretty often. It was worse during this gig I had out in California. For those of you that know the area, I was working in Culver City, but staying in Newbury Park, by Thousand Oaks. 45 miles of suck, twice a day.
