Zune Help?
Hi, I just picked up a Zune. I got through the software installation with no issue at all... unless you count it not finding the Zune itself as a software issue. Software, wait... isn't MS a software company? Oh I thought so. Curious, isn't it.
Anyway... it won't freaking reconnize. I plugged the Zune in when it told me to, and now the Zune is stuck on the charging screen, even if I unplug it from the USB cable. I've tried everything... reset, turn it on and so on. It just stays at the stupid screen. I've unistalled, restarted and re-installed the software a few times: from the CD and from the net. I'm running Vista, but I read that the compatability issues with that are fine now. Any help, Zune fellas?
Oh, and I'll do it for you Wonder:

Sorry to hear you're having problems, hope you can get them resolved hastily.

I think I charged mine right away. I sometime have the syncing problem but its because of my external harddrive. When it can't find my Zune I just unplug it and bingo. I've been meaning to grab a powered usb hub. Sorry you having trouble.

Mine was worthless for about eight hours while it charged for the first time also. Once I gave it that first charge, I have never had and problems though.
One thing that is different about the Zune vs the Ipod is that once you are done syncing, you just unplug the Zune. There is no disconnect like on the Ipods.
Oh, for me, I always change my Playlist by right clicking it and then selecting Edit in Pane view. This allows easy drag and dropping of files on the right side of the screen. I am not sure if there is another or better way though. You do have to press save though on the bottom of that pane.

Yeah. I tried to sync out of the box and it was dead. After it charged overnight, it worked just fine.
I don't think the Zune is detected like normal USB devices where it has the "Safe to Remove USB Device" option in the bottom. So dont be worried about not seeing that.
After charging, plug it in and hit the sync button, which is on the right side near the top and see what happens.

Keezles, I had the same (if not a worse) issue. I ended up calling Crippler for moral support.
When I got it, I installed the software from the net. It took an hour to take in all my music. I plugged in the Zune when it said to and the Zune kept turning on to the charging screen and then turning off again. It would stay on for about 5 seconds and then turn off completely and go back to the starting screen. It did that a boatload of times. A few times it would recognize it and say "you need to install an update to your Zune" or something like that and then that screen would go away while the zune rebooted itself.
I wasn't sure what the heck to do, it was like there wasn't even enough charge left in the thing to even get it started charging or something. I ended up plugging it in to a wall outlet (with adapter) for a while. It went thru the same reset thing a bunch of times and then started charging. After it was charged for a bit (not fully charged), I tried plugging it into the USB port again and it worked.
I also had an issue where one USB port would recognize it and one wouldn't at first. Not sure what the deal was with that, but once it recognized it on one it was fine on that one.
Keep us posted man, we'll walk u thru it. Crippler held my hand (over the phone) and told me to "try it again." Well despite the fact that I had tried it 50 times before, when he told me to try it, it worked. Not sure what kind of magic he was rocking out of his phat pipe, but it worked.
