Ipod Problems?

Has anyone heard of Computers crashing due to being connected to an Ipod? I have two separate neighbors that are having issues after linking their new Ipods. In one instance, the computer will no longer boot up. Any info or assistance would be appreciated.

Sounds like usb problem. I had alot of trouble with ipods locking up because I wasn't using a 2.0 usb port but never the whole computer.

Previously I've heard of iTunes crashing computers... but I think it was the older versions.

Good call on the USB 2 stuff too.

I used to have all sorts of problems with iTunes hard crashing in windows, but nothing that a reboot wouldnt fix. I think Apple must have fixed iTunes, as it no longer even crashes.

I don't think there is anything to worry about.

I've never been a fan of iTunes for some reason. Back in the days when it was destroying computers I had already discarded it b/c it was a resource hog. Plus the synching was a pain - drag and drop via the Zune software is waaaaay easier.

Have you seen how much memory the Zune software takes up? It's a ton! 40-70 megs! And this is when its not being used. It was a pain to stop the service also.

Really? I haven't noticed any additional resource use when I've got it running. Odd.

Okay, so there are additional resources taken up obviously, but not that much. Here are two screencaps. The first without Zune running (but with other stuff running) and the second with Zune running.

Sorry for the size, but you couldn't see the gadget without it being large. So without Zune running it was 46% of RAM and with it running it was 49% of RAM. I've got 2GB of RAM so it is using about 40GB of RAM, but that is while being used. When it was minimized it was only at 48% (or 20GB). I wonder how much iTunes uses now.

Oops, yeah, that's exactly what I meant. Dang, I'm so used to typing GB instead of MB these days! Not like the old days when going from 256K of RAM to 1 MB was big time!!

Itunes, from what I recall was something like 7 MB vs the 40MB Avg mine was getting idle with no Zune attached. I only have 512 in my kitchen PC where I move music files, so 40MB is a chunk. I know 512 is pathetic these days, but the computer when I bought it was only going to be used for playing music. Lately I have been busting this things hump with all sorts of projects.

I need to get some ram this weekend I guess.
