Granted it was more mellow than anything else they had done, but it still rocked. Even LOAD had a couple of decent songs. Hetfield blew out his voice right around the Black album so now he can't get that trademark growl of his anymore.

| The Black Album marked their transition into the world of Pop. I'm not saying the album was in the genre of "pop", but they definitely changed their sound to become more radio-friendly. Their first 4 were raw, unadulterated thrash metal. They are all landmark heavy metal albums, and The Black Album just didn't live up the high watermark they had set for themselves. | |

Cyanide isn't a good song, but besides it and Unforgiven III the rest are Ok to really good.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Nazareth, PA Age: 35 | I'm not confirming or denying I have the album, but Broken, Beat & Scarred may be my fav song on the album. It's definitely better than St. Anger as a whole.
The album is thin and weak sounding though for today's metal. Very Kill 'em All. I was hoping for more layering of guitar tracks, like Puppets and Justice, and more of a crushing guitar sound. The album would be WAY better if the guitar was heavier and crushed me. It sounds like the garage band down the street where the kids can't afford amps with a huge sound yet. Plus, what happened to Kirk and face melting solos? Weak sauce in that dept. I can't solo to save my life so I can't knock that shit.
I guess it's the new kids time now. Like Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, etc.. Metalcore is the new hotness for me. Huge crushing guitars and full of tension and hate. Love it.
Oh well. Only 2 months until the badass Testament concert. At least they got their shit back together. I can't wait to see Skolnick again.

| I'm looking more forward to this album! I was hoping that they would use a heavier, meaner sound, but as long as the music is still good...
How is Trujillo holding up with the group?
It seems that Hammett can't keep up with his legend, in terms of guitar solos, but he still is amazing enough and a million times better than I could ever even imagine.

Wait, there's a bass player on this album? Once in awhile there is a bass lick. Nothing Bob Rock couldn't play. Trujillo can easily keep up with these old guys. His playing on this album is no where near what he is capable of. I seen him with Suicidal and Ozzy. This is nothing for him. He does have a bad ass bass riff in one song though, can't remember which. Should have been more because there are bridges from riff to riff that would have been great places for some kicking low end riffage.

| That's good to hear. Hopefully in their next album they will utilize him more, then. I liked the weight of the bass guitar that Newsted brought to the group and am hoping for more of that from Trujillo down the line. | |

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Nazareth, PA Age: 35 | I listened to a few songs on my buddy's PC, has sub, and there is more bass to this album than I hear on my PC. Weird, this is the only album that I can't really here the bass on. The album is growing on me the more I listen to it. It is their best work since the Black album. I may actually sit down and figure out a few of these songs tonight on guitar/ I haven't done that since the Black album.
