| Not to hate on the touch, I had a 16 gig the day it originally came out, but the capacity was just not there for me. I did love my time with it. If they can get to 64 gig at $399 I would definitely say they hit the sweet spot and would be first in line. My son wants my 80 Gig classic I returned the touch for so he wants to see this as well.
I also think the stability of mobile safari leaves plenty to be desired and lack of flash support was a bummer.
But man, you just cannot beat the sexy factor. I still think about it when I watch a movie on my classic. I also miss checking fantasy stats without needing a computer during football season.....

Come on how much legal music could you possibly own. For you man
I have 2 full length movies, 1 short and just over 1000 songs (all legal) and still have 8.5GB free.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Cincinnati, Ohio Age: 24 | CoryB, does the Touch sync your calendar with the windows calendar when you sync it with iTunes?
It's kind of a work-around, but this is what I do:
I have installed Google Calendar Sync. It constantly syncs your Google calendar with your Outlook calendar (you can set it to specific intervals). I have mine set to 2-way, so changes to my Outlook reflect on Google Calendar and the other way around as well. When I sync my iPhone in iTunes, any changes I've made on the iPhone calendar are pushed out to Outlook, and then pushed out to Google Calendar. Also anything changed on Google Calendar is pulled down and put into Outlook, and then into my iPhone. After initial setup, there is no thinking involved. The only drawback is that it is not an instant update, as syncing is required. Hell, I don't even really use my Google Calendar as much as I'd like to.
I'm running Vista, and I think there is a "Windows Calendar" that talks to Outlook behind the scenes. I never open Outlook, but it still makes the transfer between the iPhone and Google Calendar.

Currently on my 80 gig classic I have two seasons of south park, the second season of Twin Peaks, 1 season of the simpsons, a biography of Frank Zappa, Star Wars, 2 kids movies, 3500 songs, my last 12 months of iphoto rolls, and a number of video podcasts with room to spare.
Get this, all legal, well I did record the biography on my dvr and rip it to my mac, but it was Zappa after all.
I do not want to have to mess around with smart playlists and love the fact that I do not have to think about managing content.
I would agree, musically, I do not need that much and on the 16 gig I had about 1500 songs, video now that is another story. At 16gig I was just at the edge of going over when I wanted to add video content. I love to catch up on an entire season of a tv show while on the road and the classic works better for that.
I love to fire up the ipod and find something ready to watch that I have not seen, that in my opinion is the point, if you have limited choices, it gets boring.
Obviously, you are very comfortable with a smaller size, thats cool.
Like I said, not hating on the device, love it, just wish it fit my usage pattern. Oh, and I can't say I mind the longer battery life of the classic either.
And if you really want to know how much legal music I own, digitally I have 6,248 songs in iTunes, over 200 vintage rock albums, and a small collection of 45's - All Legal

But I have two devices, a classic iPod and the iPhone. The iPhone gets a smart playlist of random songs matching the criteria I specify, and the filled up iPod only leaves the house on vacation trips, but that's the only time I'd ever want all of my music coming with me.

| My sister is one of the few people I know who could fill her 160 gig 5th gen classic almost to the brim with legal music. As a musician, the one thing she will impulse buy above all else is music. For me, I think the 8 gig should be enough for awhile, especially since I was using a 4 gig Mini. I still have some 3+ gig remaining, with a little over 3 gig of music, a few hundred meg of photos, some videos and that's about it. I'll probably fill it when we go on vacation and I know we'll be flying, and I purchased a splitter so we can both listen to what's being watched/played.
As for the Google Calendar sync, I read about that on their site, but I never installed it because I don't use Outlook's calendar at home, only at work. I'm hoping someone provides an app for that functionality come June.
As good as Apple is with software, there are some simple things missing from the functionality of the Touch. One example: when you enter a Contact and add their birthday, it doesn't populate the birthday as an event in the calendar. That one really bugs me because I'm pretty bad with dates.

Also, and this is a lifesaver, since you share calendars with other iCal users you specify as well as Google Cal users, I have all my wife's iCal events/birthdays, and she's much better at keeping those up to date. So if the person in also in my address book, it will sync their birthday even if she entered it.
Makes me look like a better human being than I am. I like that.

Heck I listen to sports radio mostly so I rarely listen to music other then when I'm in the datacenter. Speaking of Mac I started using a Macbook Pro for my second computer at work I'm pretty impressed so far. Not sure I'm in love with it but it is pretty nice.

| I knew you were D, I hope you did not take my comments wrong. In fact in hindsight I feel bad for raining on the new touch love parade.
I do want one when it gets there for me, I miss it.
Congrats Cory and enjoy!

| No worries here Crankbait, I didn't take it the wrong way. I debated long and hard over whether or not to choose the Touch and its functionality over the Classic and its heftier storage. My usage habits steered me to the Touch and I'm very happy with the purchase - for now | | |

Since June 25th 2007, I've found that it not only forces me to branch out music wise, but I wind up listening to more of my collection that I didn't even know I had. I set up iTunes to create a smart playlist that adds any song with a less than playcount of 2 to this playlist, and I have it max out at 1000 songs. It keeps it fresh because as a song gets above two plays, it gets removed automatically from that list.
I wind up going "Damn, I didn't even realize I had this" more often than not.
