Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Left Coast | I lost everything... For some reason my apps wouldn't load, and none of my music/media files would show up. Instead the iPhone acted as if there were no files on my phone. When I plugged in the phone still showed the files as being on the phone.
So I decided to restore.
It turns out that my backup was corrupted. WTF? It wrote over the perfectly good old backup with corrupted data? I am pissed!
1 year of data down the drain.
I have unistalled iTunes and reinstalled it, several times. I have restored this phone. I have done everything that I can think of.
This is very frustrating.

Lost all of my music again. This is a joke.
No phone is worth this kind of aggravation.
I went from an ardent supporter to a complete disbeliever. It now seems completely unreliable to me.
I have even reinstalled iTunes and my OS, blah, blah, blah.
It can't be anything that I am doing...with all the hype that Apple gets they are now just another company that rushes crap to the market place.
I am going to go appless for awhile...I may be switching providers very soon.

Did you see the news yesterday about the lawsuit against Apple for overselling the 3G iPhone? People are claiming that the 3G network is not capable of so many iPhones on it at one time. There may be some truth to this...

| Rhino - sorry to hear about all of the problems you've been having. There's been lots of bad press for the iPhone 3G lately and this is a confirmation of some of those problems. They need to get on top of this and release a firmware update that rectifies this issues, and STAT.
These are the types of post that definitely concern me. my iPhone 3G just shipped yesterday and will get here tomorrow. I might wait a bit before activating it.

There may be some truth to this... | what... That's crazy talk, maybe in India but not the US or Europe. The iPhone is a small number of phones in the 3G network. I know you guys think the world rotates around Apple but it doesn't. There are 100's millions of 3G phones out there on AT&T's network as well as other 3G networks.

| don't ruin the obliviousness that is called Apple. Just because someone is suing, doesn't mean they'll win. Attorneys need to pay bills too. | |

Rhino, my cousin! Dude, it sounds like you are having one hell of a time man. When they gave you a new phone, and you upgraded it, did it give you any error messages?
2.0.2 sped my backups up a lot, I now have it plugged in for about a minute each sync, and that's it. BUT, I have the Edge phone, and I have a feeling it's more different than we think.
Take off all your Apps and see what happens man, let me know. Call me, it's been forever since we chatted about crackwhores.
Maybe you should have held onto your original, although it makes me wonder, if there are problems with the 3G phone, why they plan on building 40 million by August 2009.

Lost all of my music again. This is a joke. | Wait, you lost all your music off the phone right. It's still on your computer though correct? Or did you really mean you lost it?
When you do a system restore on the phone, you'll lose everything off the phone, including your music, until you resync it. Do you think your phone is forcing a reinstall somehow?
What data did you lose lose? Even if it's off your phone, it's on your computer right?

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Left Coast | Regarding AT&T's network. They actually let me out of my 1year contract and admitted that they were having problems in California w/ available bandwidth vs user base...this was back w/ the 1st Edge phones. They have problems...
Wonder, I lost notes, contacts that I hadn't synced (due to a whole other issues associated with what a mess syncing contacts can make), and a ton of other stuff.
Bottom line don't restore your phone to resolve this issue. If your music, podcasts, etc aren't showing up on the device, but when you jack into itunes the Gigmeter at the bottom shows that that it is still loaded on your phone. Then deselect apps from your iphone and resync. Try a reset. If your music doesn't appear try syning an app back.
After getting my music "back" on 2 occasions by using this method I cut all of my apps out of the mobile applications folder and put them in a renamed backup folder. One or 2 of them must have been corrupted. The folder was a mess anyway because updated files just stacked as a new numbered file with the same name. For example my list had the following apps: Holdem, Holdem1 Holdem2....
It is a pain, but my app garden seems to be weed free, and my phone seems to be running fine. The test is a couple of hard resets and then checking to make sure that my music is still there. Anyway like I mentioned earlier it was as if one of the apps was still running in the background, but I don't have a task manager to shut it down.
Now I am adding my newly downloaded apps one at a time and running the phone for a few days. If an issue crops up I will know which app it was and get rid of it.
The funny thing about issues like this is that the "geniuses" play dumb. I told the guy what the problem was and he just gave me a new phone.
I hate to hate this phone. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon and this thing will run as advertised. Not having my podcasts in commute traffic was killing me.

People like me, who love my apple products, don't think the world revolves around them. Can the world live without them? That's debatable. But, the same thing can be said about Microsoft. Both companies have made their marks in the world. Both have paved the way for how the worlds technologies are today. They both will continue to have problems too.
I think Apple gets more press especially when they do something wrong because people in general are more scrutinizing of their mistakes.

Be it stability, useability, or whatever. So it is slightly funny and sad, when things go, umm, not as planned for a change. It takes away some of the smugness. But they can get that right back by driving a Prius! (52mpg bitches! )
