| I'll be joining the ranks soon I guess maybe I should consider it a wedding gift from my employer as I found out yesterday that I won an 8gb iPhone 3G as part of an internal contest. I can expect to receive it in late August, and the delay is probably good because I'll be in Jamaica starting next Tuesday. I'm pretty excited. I was going to wait out the iPhone 3G for awhile, at least until I absolutely needed a new phone. Now though, I don't have to.
I've amassed quite a few apps to use on my iPod Touch, but can now start looking into apps that would be beneficial to an iPhone user. Guess I'll need to re-review those apps threads to figure out which cool apps take advantage of what the iPhone has to offer.

I'm looking forward to it. My Samsung a757 is the most advanced phone I've had and it's really nothing special. It's a 3G phone, and a slider, but isn't sporting a hefty OS and browser. It makes and receives calls decently, and is fine for texting.
I really enjoy my iPod Touch, but it's obviously limited in comparison to the capabilities of the iPhone, with access only to wi-fi connections and the lack of an external speaker. I'm definitely going to enjoy the iPhone. I'll actually be able to use Whrrl for what it is - which is kind of exciting.

My current plan runs out in October and I'm thinking about switching carriers and picking up an iPhone.

| Tonight I officially entered the ranks of the iPhone 3G owner. I received mine last Friday but wasn't sure how I was expected to activate it as I wasn't given the best of instructions. It's now activated, iTunes 8.0 is installed, firmware version 2.0.2 is installed (awaiting 2.1 on Friday), and it's now resetting everything so I can update my apps, contacts, and everything important. Soon I'll be able to text and picture message with the best of them. | | |

Of course, by the time I'm ready to set up visual VM and everything else, I'll be asleep. Quote: |

| And thanks. I'm excited about it, though I can already tell the case I bought will get returned within a week, as soon as the cases I'm going to order get here. Why plural? One for the iPhone 3G and one for the 1G iPod Touch that Amy is inheriting | | |

Can't wait to have you on-board! | I am the biggest dork. I got all excited when I sent my first text message on it and saw the interface it uses for texting. I really like it so far, but because it wasn't set up until right before I went to bed, I have yet to make a call on it. I also still need to pair it to my car so I can use it in there completely hands free. I have most of the apps I wanted on it, and all of my contacts are transferred from everything that was going back and forth between my Yahoo! account and the iPod Touch. The SIM card transfer took all of 60 seconds. So far no issues. Let's hope it stays that way.
I absolutely love the iPod Touch, 'cept for its limitation in that it's Wi-Fi only, and the iPhone is that much better because I can get the info I need/WANT anywhere now.
The only negative is that I was using the beta of Grocery Zen on the Touch and when it was transfered to the iPhone, it wouldn't work because betas are encoded to work only with the specific device they are installed on. Now I have to decide if I want the full version of Grocery Zen, or a different tool for the same purpose. I have one other free grocery app, but it doesn't organize as well as I'd like.
That's it for now, but much more to come.
By the way, does anyone have a good case recommendation? I'm leaning toward ordering either the SwitchEasy Rebel or the SwitchEasy Colors. I bought a Griffin Elan Form Hardshell Case last night, and I'm finding my results are the same as iLounge's. I don't care for the screen protector at all and so it's time to order a new one so I can take this one back. Any other suggestions before I place an order?

They have a ton of options too at Vaja. I never felt comfortable in any other case.

I don't know that I could get Amy to sign off on one of those Do they come with a screen cover, or would I need to get one of those static covers on my own were I to purchase one of these? They're definitely some cool cases. I just don't know that I need one, and I don't like that the ones I seem to prefer when looking at the sight don't cover the entire phone as I'd like them to.

This is mine:
It covers the entire case, and the only time the screen is vulnerable is when it is open. I don't have a single scratch on my screen - it's wildly resilient glass, but since the case covers the entire part, I have nothing else on there.
Mine was $100 even. No shipping, no tax, but they custom made it (colors) so it took around 10 days to show up. It's expensive, but I had bought and returned 4 cases prior to this one and was getting tired of it.

| That is a sweet case. I'll have to show Amy the cases and see what she thinks. I'm guessing I'll likely end up with a SwitchEasy case because of their high ratings and inexpensiveness, but if I go through the same ordeal you have with returning multiple cases, I might go the Vaja way. | | |
