I could have been convicted of a felony, applied for a job with the TSA, and passed my background to get hired as screener (taking it as my holy duty to harass mothers, forcing them to try sample their own breast milk, as proof that it was a non-toxic and non-combustible fluid, before boarding 747's), it has taken so long for this backup and resore to complete.
4:45-8:24 for the entire process to complete...swear to your favorite deity or maternal figure.

Hey, at least you didn't camp out 8 hours only to buy it and have to wait 3 hours to get it to activate since the entire iTunes global server system went down.

Otherwise, I feel like the 2.0 software takes a lot longer to sync now.

This must be a software glitch. It didn't take this long for backup before. It shouldn't matter how much info or what size phone you have. It isn't saving 16gb of data it is only saving the sofware, settings, which itunes library you are using etc...something is wrong and it is going to make me cry. Hold me.
It is annoying, but I have been completing my data syncs and saving the long backups for a time when I am going to do soemthing like catch up on my poetic saga Ode to a Monkey and my pen pal correspondence with some dude in Nigeria who can't figure out how to use an ATM.

Everything that's on your computer gets re-synced if you have to restore. So what's holding up the backup time?
Nothing.
Glitch in 2.0 me thinks, and since devs got 2.1 yesterday, I'm thinking our update will be on the horizon.

Any iPhone or iPod touch running the 2.0 firmware can use a little speed boost when it comes to syncing, and some intrepid tweakers have found at least one no-pain way to boost syncing time, at least a little bit. To disable iTunes taking the time to send error or crash reports to Apple every sync, turn off automatic syncing (if enabled) on your phone/iPod, right-click on the unit in iTunes, and click "Reset Warnings." The next time you sync, your system will ask if you want to send the reports. Un-check the "Do not ask me again" option, hit "Don't Send," and you're good to go. It's not going to eliminate the longer lags for application syncing, but it might help move things along. (Screenshot via Gear Diary)
