iPhone App Store hits 10 million downloads

iPhone and iPod touch users have downloaded more than 10 million applications from the App Store since its launch late last week. The store, which launched with over 500 applications, now offers more than 800 apps, with more than 200 offered for free and more than 90 percent priced at less than $10.

“The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly.”

I wouldn't count them out. Many people have predicted their death but they keep kinking. From a business phone and email intergration they are still one of the best in the market.

I think it will be a few more years before we start see massive adoption of the iPhone by cooperate America. By then we should know if the iPhone is a fad or a real contender.

Nokia shipped 60m smart phones (450m+ total cell phones) last year and we are up 20-25% this year. So Apple has a way to knock everyone off the block. I don't think anyone is discounting them even we are looking at Mobileme to see how we measure up. The industry is an interesting one to be in the middle of right now.

Yeah, but that's music. Totally different story. Apps people get tired of. Especially when things get totally overrun with useless ones and they get tired of paying for crap. Most peeps I know with Touches are going backwards in FW and back to jailbreaking shit.

iTunes sucks. I can get FAR superior bit quality over torrents.

Most people who listen to music don't want higher than 192 kbps for their music, and when you get into large music collections, collection at a higher kbps than that becomes a storage issue, and storing a 22,000 song collection at higher than that also becomes an brain issue, since it's just downright stupid.

This is why I think iTunes has become the number one music retailer, because they know that, and they also know what listeners want. I totally use BT when I want higher quality recordings (or where iTunes lack a catalog, most notably in Classical Music) but nothing touches iTunes in functionality, ease of use, and DRM free music, not even Amazon.

That above reason is why I think the App Store is going to be around and strong for a while, because, not only is Apple relegating it so there aren't just a bunch of shit apps, but with 200 of the 800 free.99 and 90% under $10 for hot shit, they actually have a cheaper structure than their iTunes store.

Plus, those 1 million iPhones sold over the weekend are going to need to be loaded up with apps soon!

I will be making the switch from from my window mobile to device to the blackberry curve. I have played with the iphone and it is pretty cool. HOWEVER, I will never use ATT again, there service is horrible where I live. My experience with ATT wireless is that unless you are near a major city you are going to have very spotty service. Even in Tampa my service would drop in some areas.

So I am sticking with Verizon and will be getting the Curve in a few weeks. If Verizon ever gets the ability to get an Iphone then I would probably get it then.

320 at MIN for me. I should just go lossless and be done with it. All my music on my Zune is 320. There is a noticeable diff between 192 and 320. Maybe not on an iPod. But I can easily tell on my Zune.
