Just got my Onkyo TX-SR805

I ordered it Monday evening and just got it this afternoon, talk about fast shipping. I watched the UPS guy take it off the truck and I thought he was going to drop it because he was leaning over so much while carrying it. I quickly ran out to give him a hand not realising that it weighed in at a hefty60 lbs. The box it came in was huge, I could barely get my arms around it to carry. I quickly got it into my house and opened it up taking pics to post here for veryone to see.

Mic for the Audyssey Multi EQ setup

After I get it all wired I will post pics of everything. I can't wait to pair this with my new Axiom M60's. My initial thoughts so far on build quality are amazing. I will post back later on sounds and features when I get a chance.

I did the same Audyssey Multi EQ setup last week and it seemed to work great. I've only watched one movie so far, but all the levels seemed good. I may raise the sub a touch, but that would be it.

Good choice! I may get one of this model for my living room someday.

I've got the receiver as well, great receiver IMO. I also used the Audessey EQ and it seemed to work quite well. You can always bump up the LFE on the remote if you want if the EQ doesn't have it to your tastes. For me it depends on the song or movie.

I don't know how different the EQ stuff works on the 805, but I know after setting it up through my 605, I had to go back and change some things. One thing it did was set my front speakers to "Full Band," which routes the bass to them (they go down to 30Hz). I changed the crossover back to 80Hz because that's how I like it.

Even though it's pretty damn good at smoothing out the sound (especially sweeps from front to surround or down to the sub. Very noticeable difference), I would still highly recommend running Avia or the like with an SPL meter. The auto EQ had my surrounds turned up WAY too hot, they were about 5 dB's off from everything else. In fact, if you set it up JUST by the EQ, you will get inaccurate sound. You paid some good money for the 805, so do yourself a favor and take the time to set it up/tweak it. You won't be disappointed.

Other than that, enjoy! HDMI simply rocks for simplifying connections and PCM sound just plain rocks!

Nice receiver. Remote is less than spectacular though. I like the Pronto or the Marantz equivalent. I like those touch screens and completely programmable. Just need to find that can do radio signals with IR or some converter for that.

Congrats Shawn!! That's awesome! I think you'll be very happy with the 805.
