My Pioneer Receiver

Well... as it stands now, I just received a call from the pioneer rep handling my case saying that the repair shop did in fact talk to a technician who tried to walk them through the process to get my unit firmware upgraded but, now they decided that they needed to order a "ROM" upgrade or something of the sort and that won't be mailed out today. So tomorrow it will be mailed out and they should receive it probably beginning to mid next week. Once that is received the firmware upgrade process SHOULD take place accordingly and I should hopefully get my receiver back next week!

I feel a little silly when I keep telling everyone "Oh, it should be here next week..." weeks pass and I am still saying the same thing.

As comforting as it was to hear someone actually tell me what's happening AND to have some attempt to progress occur, I am still waiting and it will be probably a full 7 weeks before I receive it back. That's saying that I get it back by next Thursday, which, my luck standing still might not happen.

Oh well... still trudging along...

On another note I actually hooked the Left and Right analog outputs to my little 22" LCD on my entertainment rack so, now I can watch HD-DVDs on my projector while having SOME kind of sound coming out of my little TV!!

Yipes! Man you are just cursed! Is what happened to it common? You didnt send it in just to it upgraded did you?

I've had 5 or 6 Pioneer receivers since 1991(2 of them being Elites) and they all ran like champs, and believe me, they were abused!

I know this will get me laughed at, but when it comes to a company like Pioneer or whoever, I'd never send it in to get an upgrade, in fear of what Jons going thru.

I was paranoid to send my Parasound pre/pro in but the turn around time was a week, I expected that from a company such as Parasound. I like Pioneer products, but the possible headaches they'd cause wouldnt be worth it to me in the end. That goes for any bigger, more mainstream brand that has so called "techs" floating around out there.

Bryan, it was taken in because it I bought it when it first came out. So the HDMI firmware and I guess other software has been updated in it so yes, it WILL make it worth it when it comes back. The whole HDMI issue was aggravating when I first got my HD-A1 because it didn't pass "the handshake".

Spoony, you know... even though it is still Pioneer, I still expected more for a Pioneer Elite product. Given that they are actually good products and the fact they are their "top" models I figured I would've been more taken care of but... I actually find fault more in the Service Center I took it to more than Pioneer themselves.

Hence my "Techs floating around" comment. You couldnt pay me to take a nice piece of equipment to one of those places. Pioneer has very little say over what happens unfortunately. I hope it works out for you bro

I understand your pain.

Let me just start by saying I'm a dog person. O.K. I can continue now.

Many months ago while I was at work, our (my girl friends) cat decided to relieve herself of a furball right on top of my Harmon/Kardon. Of course it proceeded into my Harmon/Kardon which is now a very heavy P.O.S. Tried (made my girl friend) everything. Opened it up, got out the alcohol and Q-Tips, tried finding a replacement fuse for the one I found burnt out. Nope.

Luckily I have amazing friends (JohnW) who just happened to have the same receiver, which he extenda-loaned to me until I buy a new one (patiently waiting for DTSHD, DDHD receivers).

I know your pain. I had no way to watch anything, TV, DVD, Xbox, with sound.

I've read of a lot of issues with HDMI in general (works fine on my tv thankfully).. Just make a standard and make it work dam it. lol

I need to figure out what to get for myself. I just want to make sure I don't get a receiver that can't handle HDMI from my PS3 as I want to do SACD's as well as all the blu-ray movie codecs (why the hell are there so many types of codecs?)

yes I hooked it up. The PS3's shiny finish looks BEAUTIFUL right above my Pioneer Elite's Piano Gloss Finish!

I didn't get too much time with the PS3 yet and this weekend may be really hectic so I may not be able to even really touch it until next week.
