I need some Speaker Wiring advice

I've built a shelf above my RPTV in the "Entertainment Niche". I need to redo the wiring between the receiver and the speakers, now that I'll be running the wires in the wall. I moved the previous Speaker Jack Connectors from the low to the high, above the shelf. And, I want to run wires from the new jack upper location inside the wall to some new Jack Connectors at the old lower location. I now need to find some short "jumpers" to go between the receiver and the upper jacks, in-wall wiring to go from top to bottom, then some ~6' jumpers from the lower jack to the L-C-R speakers. One challenge is getting all the different connectors for each connection point. I think I can use banana plugs from the receiver to the upper jacks, and the same for speakers to lower jacks. The in-wall wire connectors can be bare, soldered, or pin connectors, since the back of the jacks are screw-compression type. Do I need to be concerned with different wire brands here, as long as I keep the same size/guage or wire? I'd like to be able to find some "pre-made" cable, so I don't flub up anything, and can just plug it up and go. Also, what store should be my source for this stuff?

Sorry for the confusing post!

I think I understand what you are looking to do, and I personally think banana plugs, or raw screw-downs would be the way to go on the "audience" facing connections.

A few years back I did a lot of research on cables and brands, and I do think there is a difference in the brands and quality (not wanting to get that old battle raging again). I have some slight hearing problems to begin with, so noticable audio differences were ALWAYS minimal to me at best, when testing different wiring.

However, I think the quality is where the difference (for me) was found. Better cables seem to be more managable, tougher, less likely to oxidize, and have a better fit and finish to them. I've used Vampire Wire for ages, and (as of a few years ago) you can order custom lengths of any gauge, and have them preterminated with the type of ends you want to use. You may want to give them a shot...I've always been pleased with their quality, and everyone I've pointed in their direction has been pleased to.

Good luck,

Better cables makes some good cabling. I actually use Monster cables XP-CI wiring for my speakers. While I know they're a bit overpriced, I went with them because they were what I could easily get at the time. Our local bestbuy/magnolia HT also sells audioquest/cinemaquest but, they are pretty dang expensive as well. If you want, Bluejeancables.com is also a great place for cabling. They are cheap and so far, my experience has only been great with them!

anyone know where you might be able to get 10% off on better cables???

When I wired for surround in my basement I went with monster cable. Just bought a roll of it at Lowes or Home Depot. I probably paid too much but didn't have time to wait on shipping. I've got no complaints. I also went with banana jacks, no troubles there.

Cobalt cables rock. Thats all I use now, their exchange policy along with their lifetime guarantee is awesome. I also like BetterCables but Cobalt is much cheaper and much much better quality as far as exterior, I should say much tougher. Give them a try!
