I think you should hook up your 360 to it for you! The glorious giant gaming!

There is a good thread over at AVS discussing the two. I'm wading through it now.

hahaha the problem with AVS is threads get up into hundreds of pages.... wading through that could take a week!

Hey, Keezinsky... I noticed you were banned!

LOL to both!

Yeah it got kind of crazy over there. Can some of you PJ folks break it down for me?

I only want a 92" screen. I guess PJs have a... damn, forget what it is called... thing where you have to put the PJ X number of inches above or below the bottom of the screen.

Visualizing it, I imagine that I would have to mount the HD70 upside down if I wanted to put it near my ceiling. I'm hoping that it would be possible to have the top of my screen and the PJ at ceiling level (as opposed to having to have the PJ be on the ceiling, and have the screen be X number of inches lower than the ceiling). Ahhhh!

Using this awesome tool HERE it says for a 92" screen you would need to place from 10.5' to 12.6'.

The Projectorcentral writeup / review talks about ceiling mounting and how far the top of the screen would be. I just found the user reviews and the HD70 has a 4.6 stars out of 5 from 28 real users.

Serren, is that measurement for your projector, or for projectors in general? I know some projectors have a zoom function, so for those that do could you mount the pj closer or further back?

I know, Noob question.

Those distances are for the HD70 on a 92" screen. Each projector will have unique throw distances. Most also have a zoom, which gives a user the mounting range as seen above.

That link above allows a person to choose a projector and the web page will load the throw distances for you based on the screen size you choose. Very cool. This tool might help someone decide if they are unable to decide on a model to buy just be being able to physically display the desired image.

Awesome tool!

But what about vertical placement? It seems the things I've read say that the projector has to be 16" above the bottom of the screen if it throws the image downwards (I think they measure that "attribute" in percentages), and 16" below the top of the image if it throws the image upward, right?

Keezy, that's something that needs to be taken into consideration (the distance the projector is mounted above or below the screeen). You want to stay away from keystone correction at all costs. It can visually take away from the image and add artifacts.

Two options exist (to my knowledge):

1. Mount the projector according to the specifications. Nearly all projectors have some type of vertical shift when projecting an image. This means that even if you mount it exactly in the center of the screen, the image may appear further up or down. That's something that needs to be considered with the purchase of a projector. That, OR...

2. Get a projector with lens shift. That's one reason the AE900 was agod choice for me. I didn't want to be limited by where I could place the projector. I will move my room around here soon and the projector will have to mounted off-center slightly to the left. A projecter without lens shift would make this damn near impossible. The AE900 makes it super easy.

Overall, do your research, which you've already started it looks like. Happy hunting!

-Brad

That Mits is a badass projector, I bought it at BB and demo'd for a few days but ultimately went with the Panny cause it was cheaper (at the time) and the lens shift. In all honesty the Mits looked alittle sharper but I had mounting limitations so I'm pretty happy with the AE900 (for now)

Yes #1 was what I was talking about. It seems the HD70 has options to handle this a bit, but I'm not fully sure.

I have an InFocus SP4805. I've had it for about a year and a half or so. I've already changed the bulb once, which set me back $300, and now my color wheel is broken, who knows how much taht will cost. Overall though, I LOVE my projector, just wish I had it back. Anyone know how much this may cost me? Thanks!

projectors seem really nice, but the lifespan of the bulbs really makes them sound like a bad investment to me, buying a $1000 and it looks like a $300ish bulb once a year-ish

are bulbs covered in extended warranties? when i had purchased a 62" 1080p samsung DLP the extended warranty covered one bulb change, i promptly returned the samsung after a week of its grainy goodness lol, not sure if it was the tv or a weak signal from dish network (i heard that even if your dish is showing good reception, that they could be sending you an underpowered signal)

Unfortunately more than its worth in my opinion. My first was a 4805 and I loved it so I'm not dissing you. It's just fact. I've still got my 4805 and plan on using it for pool partys. (gotta get the pool next )
