Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: South Portland , Maine | Suggestions please Hi all, My Mother is losing her eyesite due to a cancerous brain tumor. (She and I actually had radiation treatments at the same time last may and june) Anyway a few months ago I brought my 32" standard tv to her home so she could see it better than the 20" she was using. Well now she is having a hard time seeing the 32" and she wants to buy a larger wide screen flat panel TV. She is not going to get the high def cable box she just wants a bigger screen. I don't think it will make a difference but she wants to get one. She's got to watch her Red Sox games lol. So is there anything decent she can get 35" to 45" wide screen for not a ton of money? I've been looking at the Vizio's and they seem to be priced right, this one's do-able ( http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Vizio...oductDetail.do) are they any good?

| I know my friends got a 42" Visio from Costco a little while back for a pretty dang good price. I'll try to find out more about theirs and what price they paid.
The brands like Insignia, Visio, Westinghouse, etc. are very good choices for "bargain" shopping. I hear great things about each of them, especially at their price point.
Either way, I'm sorry to hear about your mother, though!

| Westinghouse sets are great even though they are bargain. Insignia also makes excellent sets. 37" for $699 42" for $899 | |

| I've done a little research recently on LCD TVs. Vizio, for the price, is a good deal. The picture isn't peferct--some small blurring and not the blackest blacks. A friend of mine has had a Vizio 42" for a two yeas or so. I've watched a couple NFL games on in in high def, and played some 360 on it, and I thought it had a good picture.
Another side bonus to Vizio, is they're suppose to have really good customer service. Given some of our experience with certian electronic devices, this may be appreciated more by others. And prices you see on their website is exactly the price you see at Costco.
For the size you're talking about, you can get a better picture from major brands such as Sony, Panasonic, and so forth. Of course, some models are a lot more expensive too.

I recommended it to my parents for their first HD set--and they love it. Great value, Vizio.

| that's wierd. My buddy has a early version of the Vizio 42" and it looked fine with the HD cable box. He's in SD, so he's either Cox or Timewarner; I don't know what Carlsbad is using now.
I think something is off on the TV. Did you try calling Vizio? They're suppose to have really good customer service. I would also suggest try switching the cable box. Sometimes they go bad; I've had to switch three boxes in the last four years.
