| DVE will be HD-DVD only and yes there will be an AVIA as well. That will be available for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, if I am not mistaken.
I liked the depth and breadth of DVE's picture quality tests and the fact that it had 6.1 encoding as well which proved especially helpful for me. But, I did like a lot of the sound test patterns from AVIA a lot better though...
Ah well... even if it DID come out when it was supposed to, I wouldn't have been able to play it since I don't have my 360 console to play my HD-DVDs with.

| Seriously... Two things that are both probably very worth the delay, are getting delayed soooooooo much!!! | |

| Yeah, definitely good news for HD-DVD supporters! But, if only they could get it out to the public so HD-DVD has something to tout about! | |

Transfer them to the PS3 and you've got a really easy way to calibrate for HD material. I've been using it with my AE900 and it works wonders. I never really adjusted the sharpness level from what Alter had it on (+1), but when I threw up a test pattern and it had the ill fated "edges," I turned it down to -4.
Funny thing is, that doesn't effect picture detail at all. In fact, it improves on small detail. DVDs upconverted look slightly better too.

| Yeah, also having the Test patterns on the Sony Blu-ray disks as well helps out. That gives you each of the test patterns that you need to just to ensure everything is set correctly, too! | |

| DVE just delayed again. It's now looking like May 25th. That's strike 3 for me. Rumor is Avia II is being released for DVD/HDDVD/Bluray next month so that's what I'll pick up. I'm tired of the bogus release dates DVE has been putting out. | |

I know it's supposed to take advantage of the new (now old) interactive HDDVD stuff, but I'm just wondering what the hell is going on!? I guess I'll stick to my makeshift calibrations until Avia comes out. I'm done waiting for DVE HD.

| Yeah, I noticed that my pre-order for DVE-HD has been in at amazon.com since October. Rediculous. AVIA II will be my calibration of choice, when that comes out. | |

| The reason why I use DVE for audio is simply because they have 6.1 adjustments. But, I still double check everything with AVIA and yes, you are correct, the Bass tones in DVE are funky, so I use AVIA primarily for that as well.
I hope that the DVE-HD will work properly in that regard.

If I'm feeling frisky, I can even pop in the Sound & Vision Hometheater Tune-up disc to calibrate everything (disc is made by Ovation, creators of Avia). I still like to use the combination for piece of mind, though.

| I am the same way. I use the calibration mic on the Pioneer to do the initial setup (this is nice because not only does it set the levels, but also eq's the speakers to a certain extent), then I pop in DVE to re check the speaker levels, then I pop in Avia to double check the sub. Gotta love it. I actually have to hand it to the Pioneer, it's auto eq is pretty nuts on. | |
