| Recommendation for new TV under 2k My brother is getting ready to purchase a new TV and I haven't done a lot of research on the newer LCD/DLP/etc. He is looking for around a 46-50". I would rather him get a smaller one with better quality than vice versa. 1080p is not a requirement, I know the 720's are coming down in price. Any help would be great. | |

So I think he should narrow it down to if he wants thin or an RP type set first. He could easily spend just half his budget and get something pretty nice IMO. He should figure out the lighting in the room as well, if glare would be a problem on Plasma's etc.. Factor in the price of a wall mount as well if he plans on doing that.

| Thanks Goat. I know there are a ton out there, I guess that's why I am asking for opinions. He is looking for a stand mounted one, or one that can be placed on a stand. Glare isn't a huge issue so either way is fine. He is really open to any style. He does some gaming, a lot of regular TV watching, and a bit of movies.
I am not that much help. My last couple TV's were RP CRT's which I loved, and now an LCD FP.

I think if I had to buy now I'd seriously consider plasma's as I think the picture looks a bit more natural than a DLP or SXRD (Lcos) set IMO. Of course the image retenting kind of irks me some still so it would be hard. If only there were just one perfect tech dam it. I'm still not sold on LCD sets, I'm pretty sensitive to motion blurr, but others aren't as much.
I also think he should opt for the bigger versus smaller. I never here of people complaining about buying too big, just the other way around.

Yes, I would have him check it out but since only 5% is supposed to be able to see them he should be good. The Samsung's just came out on top in a shoot out Hometheater Mag just did.

If going the Plasma/LCD route then that is an entire new ball game. I think the PQ differences from set to set are much greater in this area (especially LCD's).

| Just as a follow up. I talked my brother into the SXRD XBR2. It has dropped considerably in the last few months and is about the same price as the A2000 now. | |
