| SVS Subwoofer Correction System!
I just wanted to post this here for all you sub owners. By now, most of us have been exposed to some sort of auto calibration tests that a lot of receivers have now a days. One of the thing they lack is subwoofer adjustments. Well, look no further! SVS has finally gotten together with Audyssey to put together this machine which essentially does what we've all been lacking!!!! I have a BFD hooked up through but, doing measurements and such by myself is always hard and time-consuming. This is definitely something I am VERY interested in. Especially being branded as SVS's sub correction system?? Just gives me even more security knowing that I will be getting a quality unit! View Source Here

| Also wanted to mention, this unit will probably be about $700 dollars. But, I can guarantee it'll be worth every penny, to those interested!
Also, it's not just for SVS owners, it's for ANY subwoofer owner!

| Sweet. I am currently also using a BFD. I agree that setting it up is very time consuming. I almost pulled the trigger on the SMS-1 system which has gotten great reviews but I might hold out a tad longer to see how this shakes out. | |

| it will most likely do a lot better job than I can do and do the EQ process properly, because I'm pretty sure I don't do it quite right.
It's also easy to justify because since it IS SVS, if it doesn't do very much or if it's not much better than I can do, then I can return it and be out the shipping, which for something like this, wouldn't be too much.
Now, $700 may be steep but, the way I look at it, when has SVS really been overpriced? Dollar for dollar they are way under the cost for the value you get. And people say the same thing about subs~ $1300 for a sub???? Why not spend $200 on a sub and use the rest of the money elsewhere?
I believe in SVS and if they say it's worth $700 dollars, then I'm sure it is. And, like I said, if I am wrong, they have a great return policy!

| Exactly. Brad, this device is certainly going to do a lot more than the BFD. I haven't done a ton of research on this but if it's anything like the SMS-1 it has a lot to offer. The SMS comes with a mic that you plug in and then you run a frequency sweep. It then graphs an on screen chart of your FR. No more test tones and graph paper. You can then set it to automatically adjust the FR, or you can choose to do it manually. As you adjust it manually you can see the changes to your FR in real time. With the BFD you are never going to get as good a FR using test tones and graph paper. Not to mention most of us don't have the patience to tweak it to perfection.
I can map a spreadsheet on a piece of graph paper for next to nothing, but I prefer to use Excel instead.

It stands for Behringer Feedback Destroyer. It was originally designed for live bands to eliminate feedback but us HT guys have found out it makes a great sub eq.

| Yeah, it's a fantastic little unit but, takes a lot of time to get used to. It's a parametric equalizer. If you want something easier for about the same price, the ART351 that SVS sells as well is good as well! | |

The BFD is tough to configure till you get the hang of it. It is more accurate than the slide styles though.

What would be a good sub to match my Energy RC-30's (i do music and HD, but want to make sure it is very musical).. Or do I need to measure the room before I ask? Speaker distance is about 9 Feet away but haven't measure room yet. Basic rectangle with wood floors.
Budget = $250-$500. | | |

Budget = $250-$500. | I would look into HSU or SVS. Both make very capable subs in that price range that are both musical and great for HT.

Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: S.F. Bay Area Age: 30 | Thanks. Any differences in sound characteristics between the 2 brands?
I prefer tight versus boomy. For example I had sealed subs back in the day for my car, so a smooth frequency response versus a massive 80hz db increase or something.
I've looked at SVS before, what is the difference from the "round" sub enclosures versus the "square" subs. Nevermind, looks like their site has the info.
Any recommendations for a good place to buy these?
