| CES brings it There were some really great pj's revealed during CES this year. It looks like I have found the new PJ to replace my AE900u. I was seriously looking at picking up a Pearl this summer but with the release of the JVC RS-1 this is quickly becoming a fleeting thought. This projector is getting rave reviews on it's excellent black level, CR, and razor sharp images. It's current pricing is set around 6200 but I bet by this summer it is well into the low 5's. For those looking for a long term pj this one could be the ticket. Now I know Frodo 13 will disapprove but I just can't help myself. | |

| That's not a bad price at all. What kind of specs does it sport? | |

| LCD
1080p of course (60 and 24)
brightness 700 lumens (high bulb setting, probably around 400 at low)
CR 15000:1 (and this is conservative)
235:1 stretch ratio being added to final product
Units are promised to ship with less than 1 pixel convergence error
There aren't any first end user reports yet but all testing so far shows excellent results.

| Yeah there is no doubt the current crop of 720p's will be dropping. Since the announcement I have seen a lot lower street prices on the Pearl.
Here's a pic from one of the guys over at AVS http://home.comcast.net/~tryghoff/s01.jpg
The Sim2 HT5000 is another beast. For those of you who have ambient light issues this would certainly fit the bill. It cranks out 3800 lumens. http://home.comcast.net/~tryghoff/s05.jpg

They go over the new, upcoming 120Hz LCDs vs the current 60Hz and how that effects clarity during motion with 1080P LCDs. No idea if that pertains to the discussion but I read LCD so I threw it up here.

| Thanks for the clarification Lax. I thought the D-ILA was RCA's stuff. I actually looked at getting one of those when I got my current DLP Mits, but couldn't justify the extra $1000 in price. It was pretty dang nice tho with a very smooth picture. | |

The guys that are into pj's know what I mean but you're right, it "technically" isn't an LCD projector.
I have a hard time upgrading from my Panny as it is still a great projector, I would just like to get into a 1080p and I certainly wouldn't mind a sharper image. I find myself lately refocusing the picture constantly as I feel it looks out of focus.

I got my Optoma H27 with 92" screen early last year for $699 which was an incredible deal. This little guys does a heck of a job.
But I am a cheap, and have my price point for an HD unit at $1,000 dangit....

I will certainly do that Brad. I'm pretty sure this summer she will be down the road. I think she's got a whopping 150 hrs on her right now, which means I need to quit working on the house and start playing more.

You could easily pick up a used 900 for around that number. For a sub 2k pj I think the Panny is one of the best out there. It's just hard not to upgrade when the 1080 p's are dropping into the sub 5's. I plan on having this next pj for quite some time and am willing to make the investment to be happy with it for years to come.

I guess up to $1,500 if Best Buy carry's it (I figure after friends employeed discount should be around 1k). Online sites are cool as well. Shopping for friends parents.

Shopping for friends parents. | My recommendation would be the Sanyo PLVZ5. It has received great reviews and the current street prices are around the 1500 mark with a 200 dollar mail in rebate. I even believe some places are including a 3 yr limited warr. at that price.

720p is just not acceptable when shelling out hard earned cash these days for a primary display IMO. Sell a kidney, kid, whatever it takes to jump into something that will handle 1080i/p resolutions. Just compare a FOX vs. CBS NFL or now NCAA football game and 720p quickly becomes hard to watch. A projector and an awesome 100"+ screen must just make it that much harder.
Credit is easy to get, TVs are hard to repo, and people get away with robbery every day...just a couple options to close that nasty price gap. You only live once.

You can really see the difference with 1080i there over 720P. I would also go for the higher res solution.
