So you go out and get a nice new TV that supports 1080p and a HD or bluray DVD player, and wouldn't you know it, a few months later something even better comes along, Quad HDTV with 2160p.
Is this for real? Pre CES 2007 coverage - Las Vegas (LV) - Don't say we didn't warn you. If you just exchanged your savings account for a shiny new 1080p LCD TV and you are showing it off to your neighbors, be aware that your bragging rights may be fading away by the middle of the year.
Quad HDTVs have been on display here and there in Asia in 2006 and finally will be making it across the Pacific now. Westinghouse is the first company to announce that it will have such a TV on display at its booth. It will be based on LCD technology and come with a 56" panel. According to the company, the TV will use 2160p resolution (3840 x 2160 progessive) and
offer "stunning, never-before seen picture reproduction." http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/01/03/we...ouse_2160p_tv/

Looks like the HDTV market is becoming like the PC market - this is going to get old really, really fast.

| I agree, this technology is years away from being useful. I don't forsee 2160p sources for many years to come. Heck, how long have we had 7.1 capable receivers and there is still, years later, not a DVD that is 7.1 encoded.
The great news concerning the "pc like" HDTV market is, the faster it moves forward the quicker the prices come down to reasonable levels. It wasn't too long ago, you couldn't touch a plasma for under 10k. Now look at them.

Yeah, I seen this crazy new HD and laughed. It would awesome, but can you imagine the bandwidth a monster res like that would eat? Good lord. The cable companies piss and moan over HD now. That's all we need, HD becoming the next video card market. New product ever 6 months. Even though the card/GPU before it was never taken advantage of.
