I just noticed that the Yamaha 2700 can up-convert your signal which shocked the hell out of me. So I wonder how many more receivers can do that?
Being very loyal to Denon, I hope they do one soon!

| I've seen a few over the last year or so that do and considered getting one myself just to have everything upconverted in one place. I don't know about the quality of the upconversions in the various receivers tho. I imagine within the next year or so I will have to upgrade my receiver. | |

I wish I could upgrade my receiver. But, I'll just wait until I have my lower level finished. Then I'll try to break the wife down for some new speakers and a receiver. I'll then look for a receiver that decodes the upcoming TrueHD audio stuff. Hopefully a receiver with that won't break the bank.

I'll take a visit to Yahama's website just to see what video scalar chip they are using.

| Component video upconversion receivers have been on the market for quite some time now. The newer receivers are now upconverting to HDMI. This is a great feature for FP users as they only have to run one cable to the pj. I have the Pioneer 84 which does a great job upconverting. Of course the worst input I have is component so I can't tell you how well it would do upconverting a composite (there is only so much it can do with the signal), but I'm sure it would be an improvement. I had to sell my Denon to go with the Pioneer sooner than I would have liked (was trying to hold out for 1.3 receivers), but needed the HDMI output for the pj after upgrading to a HDDVD player. | |

| yeah, it won't be too long before we see HDMI 1.3 and support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.
They are just around the corner!

| Yep, I'm holding out for the HDMI 1.3 and all that jazz. I've not needed component switching until the Wii was introduced into the mix. My little baby has done me well over the years. | |

I bought a Panasonic XR-55 in August 2005, and I have been very impressed with it. The sound quality is amazing and it offers 3 component in ports for switching. Seriously, when you guys are in the market for your next AVR, take a listen to Panasonic's digital models. They receive excellent reviews and are usually priced a couple of hundred dollars less than standard AVRs with similar features.

| I've looked at a few of the digital receivers and thought they looked really interesting. I wonder how they sound w/ my speakers tho. Did you notice a sound difference when you upgraded? | |

| I have never been a big fan of digital receivers. I listened to a Sony when they first introduced their line of digital receivers, and I can't explain it it just sounded "digitized" for lack of a better word. I'm sure technology has come a long way since then however. They do seem to put out some power though. | |

I am going to wait just a bit longer on the receiver upgrade. But will do more research during mid-year.

And seeing as there are no 1.3 capable receivers there can be no truHD. If it were as simple as a software upgrade then maybe, but 1.3 is a hardware issue so that's not possible.

And... the 1st couple of generations of sony digital receivers are generally thought to have been pretty junky. Check out some of the reviews online regarding the newer generation of digital AVRs (especially the Pannys), and you'll see what I mean.
Peench, I did notice an extreme difference -- for the good. I heard dialogue in movies that had never been there before. I had been using a Yamaha HTR-5555 AVR (generally regarded as an excellent entry - mid-level system), but I couldn't believe the increased clarity in movies and games.

| Really?!? That's cool. I have been keeping an eye on the Anthem and shoot.. one that starts with a P I think line of receivers/amps. I'll have to broaden my search when I actually get to that point. | |
