looking to buy an hd-dvd player

What are some good models to look at? I don't want to spend a fortune right now, but I want to get a good stand alone player. I really thing that hd will win the battle over blu-ray, but still don't want to spend alot on a player just in case. Please feel free to send me some feedback on your opinions. Any advice is appreciated because to be honest I really ain't spent to much time on the research of these items.

The Toshiba HD-A1 or HD-A2 are good choices. The HD-A1 can be had for pretty cheap, 300-400 I think... the HD-A2 which is the next generation after the HD-A1 can be had at a retail price of 500. Or, if you're not set on a standalone player, then the alternative is the HD-DVD Add-on.

I think it's one of the best stop-gap alternatives especially since it's only 200. and you already have a 360...

+1. And the A2s still aren't available. The HD-DVD drive looks every bit as good as the HD-A1. Just doesn't output the new audio formats. HOWEVER, when you select one of those formats on a dvd menu, it DEFINITELY sounds better.

yep yep! It'll be interesting to see how the second gen units work out when people actually get a hold of them!
