The last time I lived in an apartment I made (out of wood) some risers for my speakers. They separated the speakers from the floor like AET suggests.

Another thing to consider is that if you can keep it relatively quiet in your listening area you won't have to turn it out too loudly in order to hear/feel everything.

But like Jon said, be up front with your neighbors. They might be totally cool about it.
