Inexpensive Outdoor Speakers

My mom wants some outdoor speakers for her patio. We'd be installing them under the eaves, so they wouldn't get directly wet from rain, etc. Do any of you have some recommendations? I've seen a few $50/pr jobs at Radio Shack and on PartsExpress.com, but not sure of the quality. Sound needs to be decent, too, obviously.

Thanks,

I don't have too much experience with outdoor speakers. However, I have been looking into a speaker company recently that I had never heard of before. They are The Speaker Company. A friend of mine just bought a 5.1 system from them for about $300, and I was really surprised at the quality, both aurally and build wise.

They offer outdoor speakers too. I don't know too much about them but they are only $70 a pair and would most likely outperform those Rat Shack speakers you mentioned.

Flea markets. I got some that lasted over 5 years that were a part of an older radio/tape deck boom box type thing. The type with the speakers that can detach. Worked great. They may still be working as far as I know.

I've been looking at some outdoor Klipsch speakers for our back patio. I'm in no position to buy them, but I'm interested.

Here's a link: Klipsch - 300W Outdoor Speaker (Pair) - AW-525WHI

They supposedly sound great, and I'm the kinda guy that would buy Klipsch just because that's what I have inside.

Yeah, that's why I didn't recommend any other speakers. I figured your mom's price range probably didn't exceed $100. I would still read a ton of reviews and stuff and try and get your mom the best band for the buck. That way, you know she'll be happy and it'll make you feel good when she always comments on how they sound.
