I'm following Thornes "new camera" thread pretty closely as I'm looking to take a video camera on my mountain biking trip to Utah in the fall. The twist is, I'd like to find a good camera that has a video-in for potential helmet-cam use.
Anyone ever used a helmet-cam, or alternatively know of a good, lightweight small camera with good battery time and tape time that could potentially be helmet mounted?

| I personally don't, but try checking out bayarearidersforum.com. Some motorcyclist are really into the video taping rides, so they may have recommendation or know a good resource to do research. | |

At least not that I know of.

Since biking can be a bit shakey, there may be some good info on how to get a steady shot. I'm think you'll probably want to mount something on the bike.

There is a lot of good info on the forum, those guys appear to know their stuff. Some of them have spent a big wad of cash on their setups too...
And yeah, killing the vibration/bounciness is a big problem. There are advantages to the bike mount and the helmet mount, so it depends on your riding style. I tend to let the bike take the brunt, so I'd personally probably better off with a helmet mount. I'm just not sure whether to go cheap (less than $200) and just not be overly concerned with quality and whether it gets bashed, or actually make a bigger "investment". Thankfully I have some time to decide. I'm more limited by funds than time right now.

I am probably glad I didnt have something like that when I was a little bit younger though because I used to do a lot of stupid drops like 5 or 6+ feet and long sets of stairs on my hard tail trek but when I finally went through my 5th rim my dad told me he wasnt going to help me pay to fix it anymore. But now I rock a Gary Fisher advance, not too bad for the trails around here and it is so lite I can hop it no problem havent really done anything crazy on that one yet.

If you're doing 5-6 ft drops, you're already out-tricking me. I ride a full suspension because I have an aversion to pain and I'm almost 40. I own a hardtail that I ride on occasion (I know, I know, that's what she said...) but I got to where I was flying over the handlebars a little too often a few years back. After waking up one morning and not being able to lift my arm over my head, I came to the conclusion that a full suspension was the way to go. I haven't been to the doctor on a bike-related incident since (knock on wood). Having that rear shock for me is pure defense. I'll take my fair share of jumps, but nothing hairy really.
I want to convert my Kona hardtail to a single speed, but I've got it loaned out to a friend right now. Maybe someday.

I haven't really done many drops on my fisher at least nothing more than 3 feet onto concrete I dont even mess with stairs too often anymore because the last time I fell I had to replace the the crank the drailers and a back rim but that was because I dropped over one set went down the next set then wiped out on the third. Luckily only the bike went to the doctor on that one. but after I bent the rim again on that bike I went ahead and bought the fisher.
