just ordered a new receiver

last night i noticed that my current receiver had no output on the front left and right channels, so i went on ahead and ordered a cheap receiver just to get me by and one that is decent enough to use in the bedroom when i can afford one thats worthy of the front room

the main points i was shopping for was enough hdmi inputs for my 360, ps3, and cable box and i wanted one that had the auto setup with mic. my price point was pretty low, so i ended up going with another Sony unit, heres the link to it, take a look and tell me how dissapointed you are lol

btw- negative feedback is welcome, i still have time to cancel the order

Amazon.com: Sony STRDG720 7.1 Audio Video Receiver - Black: Electronics

For a little under a $100 more, you could have gone with the Onkyo 605. The only thing there is that it only has 2 HDMI inputs, but I would probably venture to say that you don't need HDMI for your cable box. The 605 will pass up to a 1080i signal through HDMI (meaning you could hook your cable box up via component and have the receiver output the video through HDMI).

Just something to consider. The 605 would be a better stop gap receiver until you decide to do the big upgrade. The 605 also has a better auto setup system and mic (using Auddessy or however you spell it), as well as decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA (for when you get a Bluray player that will bitstream the new codecs).

It's just a suggestion, but I think you could do a lot better than that Sony. I've never been a fan of their receivers.

Actually looks like something I wouldn't mind having so it probably is bad.

I think you made a decent choice but these HT sharks might tear you up.

I agree with Brad. The sony will suffice, but the 605 is a great receiver just for 100 more.

Its never too late just dont pay them and stick it to the man. Of coarse that would look bad on your credit score.

Anyways now you know not to buy from amazon unless you are sure you want it.

After looking at it I think that onkyo was in a package deal I was about to buy when I though i had the money for it. Now Im kinda glad I dont have a job or else I would have ended up spending money on that and not having money for other stuff.

Well all im going to say is the Sony recievers arent that great, should have went with the onkyo, The sound quality of Sonys are minimual at best and I know from when I was working at Circuit (which was only 2 days ago) they get bar far the most defective returns. I would say always go Onkyo, Denon, HK. Even some Pioneers arent that good, well the ones are Cirucit City arent those are the only ones I can truly speak about. But those two recievers being mentioned we carried and I know about the sony, for at least the reasons that Big Brad said I would have went onkyo, but honestly you are going 6 one way, half a dozen another when comparing the two.

Too bad you can't change your order. I would definitely recommend Onkyo or Denon over Sony. You'll get a decent enough performance from the Sony. Over the years from reading, and some listening, Sony is forgettable with its sound. They make up the value in the features their units provide.

The only Sony products that really shine are their TVs, especially their top line. Yea, they still have features, but the video is top notch.

I don't know about you, but for me, with receivers, I'm concerned about the sound and power, 2nd is inputs, and next is outputs. I can always add switchers if needed; I have four-way component video/toslink switcher.

i wish i could have caught that onkyo deal before it was to late, if the SQ of this new model is better than my current model, i can live with it. if not, amazon has a decent sounding return policy and ill just return it and hold off until i find something of higher quality on sale. if its at least better than what i currently have it will work just fine for my plan of buying a 'nice' receiver within a year and moving this to the bedroom.

im really hoping its at least a little bit of an upgrade, i hate hassling with stuff and wouldnt want to screw with having to return it
