Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Left Coast | I am having a hard time. Dear Lobby,
I have been watching HD DVD’s for about a week now, and, well the other night….I ummm, put a regular DVD in my upconverting DVD player, thinking that everything would be OK.
"Everything will be alright," I said to myself.
Well, it wasn’t. I didn’t sleep well last night and couldn’t focus at work all day. I really don’t know what to do.
I am no longer satisfied with my old DVD collection, and I find myself consistently gravitating to my HD DVD drive….
Does anyone else have this problem…..is something wrong with me!!???? I feel like a horrible person.
Sincerely,
AM I NORMAL? | |

| You are most definitely not normal, but back to your problem. I am concerned myself. Having recently acquired an HDDVD drive myself I too am scared that my DVD collection will become nothing but a collection of dust bunnies. I have been too busy to shop for HDDVD's so far and I am hoping that will keep me out of trouble, but I doubt for too long.
Rest assured Rhino that we will be here for you. Here as a shoulder to cry on, as an ear for you to bend, as a friend to listen to you pour your heart out. We will be here for you talking you into buying more HDDVD movies and upgrading gear to get the best bang for you buck. Here to peer pressure you into buying more games to you can play with us. Here to support you in every way other than the support you receive from your jock strap and paisley thong.
We love you man. | |

| hahaha, you guys crack me up.
Man I had a worse experience than you had my first time around. After experiencing the HD-DVD goodness the first regular DVD my wife wanted to watch was NON-ANAMORPHIC!
OMFG. I about fell to the floor out of sheer disgust!!! Line twitter everywhere. Lack of resolution. Edge Halos EVERYWHERE!!!
We need a "HA Group" - HD-DVDs Anonymous

| I was thinking about picking one of these up but don't want to spend the money if I would be unhappy with the video quality. Can any of you videophiles let me know what you think of the picture quality aside from it just being HD? | |

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Ohio | Rhino, Im effed up like you but I know how I will react before it happens, hence why I sold almost 570 of the 600 dvds I had. I knew I'd never look at them again after fondling HD DVD. I have no doubt that when I do get the drive, the remaining 30 will be handed down to family member.
Unfortunately the same has happened with video games after Gears of War. I cannot look at putrid excuses for graphics any longer. I'll have to wait for Alan Wake, Mass Effect and others to fill the massive void Im about to experience.
I wish you luck in the future but once your spoiled, its over with. The bright side is that if these are the problems we face, life must be going well

I can tell you with my videophile eyes that yes...it looks every bit as good as the Toshiba players. And if you don't mind not having access to DD Plus, TrueHD, or DTSHD, it's well worth it.
Personally, it's perfect for me until the end of the format war--or until Denon or someone like them comes out with a badass univeral player.

Their only gripe is the HDMI issue but they are so taken aback with the pic quality with 720p that they soon forget about the lack of HDMI.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Dirty Jersey | Do you guys think the whole Blue Ray v. HD-DVD is going to make a difference in the next generation DVD scheme? How will digital download impact all of this? Won't we eventually get to the point where I just play my HD movie from my Terra byte external?
But as for now, I hear your issues. I watch all of my Football games in HD and it is an insult to go back to regular broadcast. Also, I tried playing Halo 2 after reading the first Halo novel and it looked like a primitive piece of trash. After experiencing GOW I am now a graphics snob.

| I'm feelin ya!
I hadn't watched ANY dvd's in quite some time simply because I was already spoiled by watching HDTV... and movies on HBOHD, SHOHD, HDNET, INHD etc... DVDs just looked like crap after that!
At least NOW, I'll feel comfortable renting HD-DVDs - and enjoying the movie.
But - yeah - here - BrightHouse offers HD-PPV. The selection isn't that great right now, but we've already paid the $4 for a movie and it looked great!

Most of the Steelers games this year have been in HD, but this past week's against the Browns was SD only, and it sucked big time trying to make it through that in SD.
Funny enough, i don't mind my daughter's shows in SD. We've recenlty watched Care Bears Nutcracker, Rudolph, and Chipmunks Christmas all on SD DVDs, and they were fine. However, i can't stomach a regular movie on 480p anymore.
