| In the market for a Surround system My dad is looking to purchase a new surround sound system(receiver and speaker set) for his theater room. Since I am the novice compared to you all in this department, I figured I would ask the experts. He is looking for something with smaller then bookshelf sized speakers, at least dolby 5.1, something that sounds just as good playing dvds as it does cd's. He cares alot about clarity not just volume. Not sure if its possible.. but he has three zones(parts for the house) that he would like to hear his cd/radio in. Hope all this makes since... if there is any further info I can add , just let me know. He would like to stay under 2500k. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. | |

| I am a sucker for Pioneer receivers and Axiom speakers.
The receiver I linked to is the newer model of the one I have in my HT and I absolutely love it. It's great and now the price is even better. I've turned a few friends on to Axiom speakers and they're all very impressed with them. They sound great and also look great.
Just thoughts. If he wants a sub, I really like SVS.

Most recievers I saw when shoppin for mine (I ended up with a Yamaha) had 2 speaker sets (a, b, a & b).
I have Bose speakers that I like a lot... but I'm no audiophile.

| You can't beat SVS for the value you get with their subwoofers. They even have 6.1 and 7.1 speaker systems available. The Axiom speakers are supposed to be really good also but you would still need to get an SVS sub to go with them. The Axiom sub doesn't come close to the SVS.
For receivers I'm partial to Denon. I used Sony receivers for 15 years until I got a Denon in 2004 and agan this year.

| WormholeXtreme speaks the truth. I have not yet heard the SVS speakers but early reviews say they are incredible. They're also very affordable. | | |

I'll third the Pioneer/Axiom/SVS combo. You can't argue with 3 astute members running it.
I have heard good things about the SVS 5.1/7.1 combo's as well.
Hey worm, have you heard the Ep600 in action? If not you might change your tune about Axiom not being able to compete.

You may want to encourage him to go with in wall/inceiling speakers. They're reasonably priced, and much more stealthy than even small speakers.
Oh, and Bose BAD. VERY BAD. Crap construction, crap sound.
$2500? I dunno, man--if he's "picky" about sound...he's going to have to make compromises to get it at that price.

| In wall speakers are a good option for sure. I'll throw Paradigm speakers into the mix. I've loved mine since I got my first set years ago. They also have in-wall options. One of my wife's friend's bought some for her husband for Christmas last year and they sound great. | |

| The Energy speakers I have heard in the past have sounded nice. I believe they are probably a bit more efficient than Paradigm too. My paradigms sound good with my Yamaha receiver, but if I had some serious power to dump into them I'm sure they would sing! They are power hungry! | |

I think I may need to have them checked out...
I'm pretty much half deaf, so the Bose speakers work great for me. Like I said, I'm no audiophile.

I am a regular over at the the forum check them out at www.AV123.com . I would suggest you check out there Rocket line and x-series Packages . You could put together a really good 5.1 X-Series setup for under a grand. They sould great with music, movies and Onix CS is excellent. http://www.av123.com/products_catego...ers&brand =55
