HD DVD: Buy, sell, or hold?

There is a CNET blog outlining the positives and negatives about what to do with HD DVD. He treats it very much like a stock market situation, which is interesting.
  1. Hold - Keep what you have and hope that the war isn't over. Or just keep watching what you have until your HD DVD player goes bad.
  2. Buy - Buy everything up when it get cheap. Low cost next-gen DVD! He suggests not paying more than $10 for a movie on a dying format.
  3. Sell - Get rid of it while you can, and cut your losses. Trade or sell all of the HD DVD stuff, and buy Blu-ray.

Check out the full article here:
HD DVD: Buy, sell, or hold? - Fully Equipped - CNET reviews

What do you all think?

What happens when my HD DVD add-on craps out? It may take a while, but I still wonder.

i wouldnt think the money you would make buy selling out would be worth the effort really, might as well just sit back and let em rest on your shelf

I'm holding on to mine. But I probably won't be buying any more HD discs. Unless they do hit $10. I can always get a Super Blue drive which will play both formats. No big deal then. Until Blu-ray changes specs again and forces new hardware purchases. Which is about every six months currently. It's like upgrading a video card. Hopefully one of those spec changes adds network functionality and adds updates. Gee, now I can see why peeps choose Bluray.

Did anyone else get a HDDVD software/FW update lately? I threw Happy Feet in and was prompted to download an update.

I haven't watched anything recently, so I'm not sure about the update.

I'm going to hold onto mine, and if the fire sale starts, buy up HD-DVDs on the cheap.

I'm sure I won't be able to help myself when good movies come out on HDDVD (Like American Gangster).

Wii ID: I have two....
dmiller68 will become famous soon enough

I have stop buying new ones... Unless something I really want comes out. I'll hang on to movies and watch them until the addon dies. When the add-on drops to $50 in the next couple months I'll buy a second one as backup. Heck I still bought laserdisk for a year after DVD came out and was dominating the market.

The war is over and I've moved on... Just waiting for the rest of the world to wake up.

LOL I love it!

Hopefully my drive lasts a while. By then, I can rebuy the 10-15 movies I have on HDDVD.

Best Buy is having a BOGO sale on select HD-DVDs this week. You can find what they are selling with the BOGO here.

I was in BB yesterday and found that while these are some great movies, I'm pretty much refusing to buy into a dead format. I know, a lot of people are saying "you're movies will still work," but the fact is that working players won't always be around. I'm certainly not going to buy a $150 player for a dead format.

Some people have mentioned dual format players. I don't know if this will ever happen. They will need to be cheap for consumers to be into them. Look how horrible the numbers are on LG's super-blue multi drive player. Prices will need to be between $200-$300 if they want to be competitive.

It's a tough call, Keezy. It really boils down to how you feel about the war and all. My personal feeling is that Bluray has won, and I see no reason to support HD-DVD anymore. Eventually, Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks will go Blu. It's only a matter of time.

I'm holding on to the idea that the online petition will work (thousands have signed) and MS/Toshiba will throw more cash at the studios than Sony did. Swing everything to HDDVD. Except Sony Pictures of course.

I find it hilarious that I actually see way more HDDVD commercials now than I ever did before CES. Way to go Toshiba. Crank up the ads when this whole format thing is basically lost already. If ya would have did that a yr ago, maybe things would be WAY different now. Because, they do a way better job of selling HDDVD than what I have seen for Bluray.
