Hi, I looked at your port fowarding posts. I have a question. A long time ago, I tried to open up the ports on the 360,however when I disabled UpnP my internet would not work so I had to turn it back on. I tested the connection before opened up the ports in port fowarding. I have three questions. First is it because I did not open up the ports afer I disabled the upnp why my connection did not work. I disabled it then i tried to go online to find out what numbers i needed but i could not connect so i had to turn it back on. If i disable upnp go into port fowarding, open upo the ports and save the connection would my online workand if I cant disconnect upnp, could I still open up the ports in port fowarding and get a good NAT signal. Peench, I have seen your info, you seem to have a lot of knowledge, please give me avice. It would be greatly appreciated.

DanrBoston - welcome to PGL. uPnp is funky. For some reason I had to turn it on, then off, then on, then off or something to that effect in order to get the forwards to actually take. Unfortunately I don't completely understand why it did or didn't work like it was supposed to. Perhaps it was my Linksys, perhaps it was something else.

Lets start by breaking down your issue. First, what type of router are you using?

When you turn off uPnP you cannot connect to the internet you say? But if you turn it on, it won't forward the ports?

You should be able to forward the ports regardless of your upnp setting. Forwarding the ports should not affect your ability to get online. Give it a shot and then check back in here.

If you're getting an OPEN nat setting, you're all set for the 360. If you're getting Moderate or Restricted, then you need to some more work. If the port forwarding doesn't work, I suggest to put the 360 in the DMZ zone. This does pose a security risk in that hackers could get into your LAN. Of course, I haven't heard or read of any hackers actually using a game console in the DMZ to get into a LAN and causing havic.
