A quirky request regarding phone adapter

I've got a quirky situation regarding a voip phone adapter. Basically I got a Linksys SPA2102R phone adapter because the adapter I got from voip.com, the Grandstream Handytone 286 would not work behind my firewalls.

So I got the adapter off of ebay, and I need to get into the admin area of the device to set it up for my voip service. I tried searching the net and found a few passwords, but none worked. I tried calling Linksys, but I was inform they only give that information to retailers so I have to go to them or get thier pin number and call back. I've written the ebay seller tonight, and I'm waiting for an answer. I don't know if they'll be able to get me the password or not.

So my question is, does anyone work for retailer or business that sells the Linksys SPA2102 and has the ablity to get the password. Let me know. Thanks in advance.

nope. I can't get into the web admin at all. I have to turn on the web base utility, which is done through the voice menu on the phone. The phone passwords I've found on the web thus far are 78778839, 7756112, 78196365, 8995523.

In doing more research, it looks like I bought a Sunrocket gizmo (phone adaptor that Sunrocket used, and they changer the default password through a firmware update).

Oh man, that sucks. I have a Gizmo at home that is sitting in a box since sunrocket closed their doors. I had loads of info on how to get into them, but I'm not sure what I did with it. If I can find it, I'll post it up. I did find loads of the info I needed at dslreports.com. You might wanna try there too.

I ended up using the LiveCD to unlock the mechanism. Had to do it twice. I missed some step, but I got into web interface. Now I'm just working on the settings to get it to connect to voip.com's servers.

There's no hard reset button?

Nope. Plus, doing a factory reset sets the unit back to the Sunrocket settings, which means web utility shut off and unknown password for voice menu to be able to turn on the web utility. Well, I haven't been able to find a hard reset button. It's easy to reboot the gizmo through the phone when, and if needed. There is not reset button on the Grandstream Handytone 286 either. I think it's because the unit is designed to be setup for specific service providers.

Here's a link to the adapter:

click either pic

If you notice, the link goes to "service providers" products. Thus, the general consumer should be able to buy one. What's quirky here, since Sunrocket has closed it doors, their adapters became property of the their customers since they never asked for them. Normally, the adapters are the property of the VOIP company that issue it to you.

On a side note, I'm not voip expert, but from what I've read, Linksys is pretty good in regards to VOIP adapters. Definately a more well known name to the general public. But it looks like Grandstream my be one of the best manufactures of VOIP adapters.
